Cyclones open as 3 point favorites

Do they give 3 pts for homefield?

Effectively calling this one a tossup?

I assume this is for the Northern Illinois game?

(sorry, I can't view the link as gambling sites are blocked at work)

First couple weeks of the season is the best time to make money. Nobody really knows what to expect from the teams and the lines are usually out of wack.

Oh man, I should drop some coin on this one.

This game isn't the sure thing that many Cyclone fans are making it out to be. Northern Illinois is going to be tough - the favorite in the MAC. They're also playing Minnesota and Illinois on the road this year, and they believe their best chance to win is at ISU. Bottom line, they're coming into Ames expecting to win just like they did at Purdue last year.

I believe we'll win, but it's going to take a supreme effort to get it done. I hate it when we schedule such a tough opponent the first game of the year. I'd rather be playing Eastern Illinois.

Totally agree. First 2 weeks of the season are the BEST time to catch a line that is too close.

Great weekend to make a lot of money!!

I plan on taking a couple 2 and 3 game parlays and making some nice cash again this year!

NIU is going to be the team rolling into JTS with all of the pressure on their shoulders. It's the season opener and allegedly their best chance to knock off a BCS Conference opponent on the road. That game will also set the tone for their entire season which everyone is predicting will end with a MAC title. Let's not forget that NIU didn't beat a team of any significance last season either and didn't face an offense that has near the firepower of ISU. NIU might hang tough for awhile in the first half but ISU is going to put this game to bed early in the 2nd half.

You really think NIU will be the team with the pressure on them? If this game is close in the second half, I guarantee you Iowa St will be feeling more pressure than NIU. They beat Purdue and played Wisconsin tough last year, and have a good shot at beating both Minnesota and Illinois this year. Yes, this game will set the tone for their season, but it will also set the tone for ISU's season. A loss here and going to a bowl for a second straight year becomes much harder.

I wouldn't touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Didnt you pick Iowa to cover against UNI last season opener too???!?

All joking aside, I will wait to see what happens over summer ball before I make any bets or substaintial predictions. Players get hurt, starters get beat out, things happen. Cybookie will get hit up, but not until days before the game. Sims out hurts too, his run support is superb.

They might be a good team, but I really think we are better than the oddsmakers think we are at this point. I agree with others that this is a good time of year to exploit this line.

This time of year everybody feels their team is better than the oddsmakers give them credit for.

I find it hard to believe they'd think ISU was a better chance for a win than Minnesota. Not to deny they'd say that, but ... I don't see a clear separation.

General observation, regarding the line: Better snatch that 3-point spread, because it's going to swell to at least 6-1/2 pretty quickly.

It'll be tighter than we'd like, but I'll stick with 34-24, ISU.

Agreed. For all of you on here thinking we will have a tough time covering this, you better not be the same people in all the other preseason threads predicting 6, 7, or 8 wins. If we can't cover 3 against NIU, then we are looking at 2 to 3 wins tops with our schedule.
