ISU looking into incident that involves Sims

This poses an interesting question. Lets say you, an above average Iowa State fan, are walking home one night when an important Iowa State player punches you in the face and takes your wallet. You realize that reporting the incident would result in a substantial suspension or that player being kicked off the team. What do you do?

I worked with a guy in college who got in a confrontation with a group of ISU football players. They were complete jerks to him, and he had done nothing wrong. He decided he was no longer a fan of ISU football because of this. He cheered for all other ISU teams, but always cheered against the ISU football team.

I wouldn't do that because the team is more than a few jerk players. However, if I get punched by an ISU player, I turn him in and hope it ends his career. Payback!! My personal health and well-being comes before any team affiliation I have. Call me a weak fan if you like, but I don't care. If someone does me wrong, I want to get back at him. Besides, if you let it go, aren't you just encouraging the act. Criminals tend to escalate to bigger crimes the more they get away with. I'd be doing the guy a favor by turning him in.

It has to do with responsible journalism versus tabloid journalism. You and I obviously have different opinions regarding the difference.
"Responsible journalism"??? The only thing this has anything to do with is selling papers. Of course, that probably is most editors' definition of "responsible journalism".

Glad that the situation appears to have been...misdirected.

You and I are going to have to agree to disagree. This has nothing to do with media bias. It has to do with responsible journalism versus tabloid journalism. You and I obviously have different opinions regarding the difference.

Explain why it's tabloid journalism as opposed to responsible journalism. Tabloid journalism would have included using unnamed sources, accounts of the incident, and speculation on his role. They did none of this. They reported on a quote from the athletic department. They are reporting news.

Don't mean to be a jerk. This is a pet peeve of mine.

Didn't realize that is what this was about. The movie any good? Whats the general plot?

Not terrible. Basically, PO is an obsessed fan. He follows the star player for the Giants around one night to go where he goes on the night scene. While following, they find the player goes to a questionable neighborhood. They then go to the club where they are and eventually introduces himself. He let's it slip that they saw him go to this neighborhood. The player gets ****** and beats the **** out of him. The guys family makes a deal out of this when PO actually doesn't want to do anything for the sake of the team. There is a subplot rivalry with he and an Eagles fan going back and forth on talk radio. I actually thought the ending was pretty cool.

And who wants ******** like this representing ISU in the first place?

Just saying you need to look at the number of reports and timing. Yes, I know they are the same company. I question why the Rag didn't cover it as well as their sister paper.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that the PC is located in Iowa City and the DMR is located 120 miles away and had thier own local news to cover.

I think I've seen this movie

Sorry but I have never seen a confrontation in Ames, IA in which one party is at no fault. Maybe they don't deserve what they get but at some point usually they escalate things. I have seen those guys who are always working out and think they are tough start **** with players way too many times. Either they think they are tough and can back it up or in other cases they just think nothing will happen.

I would consult my trusty WWJD bracelet and turn the other cheek.

Don't know where you got that from what I posted. Take a look at the facts and get back to me.

???
Wow. I guess if the final record is already "fact", no need to play the season. It was a fact that we were going to lose in Lincoln last year too right?

No I get it. ISU has a tough schedule. I certainly hope the players and staff don't share that attitude. You say their ceiling is 4-5 wins. Fine. I see 4-5 wins as a disappointment. They may have a rough year but I am not going to sell them out calling for a losing record before they even take a snap this year.

Where did I say the final record was fact?

I look at the facts of the schedule etc and come up with 4-5 wins. I just don't see that prediction as being as asinine as you do I guess.

Agree to disagree...

Just as much of a "fact" that we were going to beat Iowa, KSU and KU last year as well.

Just because somebody doesn't see a winning season, doesn't mean they aren't a fan of the team.

I don't see a winning season in the cards either.

Agree. Where did I say that?

I dont necessarily see a winning season either. My concern was with the certainty that was presented.
