Hey all, Hawk fan here. I've never been to Trice but I wanted to try to make the northern Illinois game, since it doesn't conflict w/ any Iowa games. I'm also trying to go to as many College fball stadiums as possible here in the next few years. If I want to tailgate fairly hard, when/where should I show up? Tips on what to wear (obv not hawkeye gear), what to bring to drink (rules on alcohol, how to sneak it into the stadium, etc) and what I can expect to scalp tickets for.

Looking forward to it a lot...42 days until college football!

Thanks for not wearing hawk gear...I always think those guys are d-bags. I've always said if I make it to a game in IC I would not wear ISU gear. Unless the two teams are playing of course.

The tailgating lots open up 6 hours before the game. You should be able to get a spot in the grass lots just south and east of the stadium along south 16th street.

bring cans of beer (lots), glass isn't typically allowed in the public tailgating lots.

It may hurt you but you should put on a ISU shirt. You will fit in and won't get ragged on nearly as much.

Lastly just have fun and be smart.

Arrive a bare minimum of 36 hours before the game. You should drink nothing but mimosas with parasols. For clothing, anything that is very form fitting with a codpiece should suffice. Good luck and have fun.

You made a good impression on me from your post. Just bring a cooler of beer on wheels, so you can walk around if you want.
On when to get there, yeah 6 hrs before game time, 7 if they let you in. Just go right across the stadium at the University/S16th intersection, you"ll have a good time there.

No need for this.

He'd only get ragged on if he wore a hawk shirt to an ISU/NIU game. The reason for this is that only a *****bag would do this. Darko, if you are indeed a ******bag then, by all means wear your Drew Taint jersey.

I would say sneaking in probably isnt an option but you could probably scalp a ticket fairly easy because it is a thursday night game. Tailgating the grass lots is where its at, i have been to several stadiums and you may think i am biased but iowa state tailgating is so underrated its sickening. Also wear State gear and you can drink several different things. Its a thursday night so ill probably make me a bubba keg of jack and coke and just walk around much easier. lol lastly get wasted and enjoy yourself.

Got it. Is there an official ISU codpiece I can get somewhere?

Also, does parking in the grass lots cost any money? What can I expect to pay to scalp a couple of tickets? Where are the crazy tailgaters, I wanna be around them.

Lots open at 1 then, correct?

Even if I am not a fan of either team that I am going to go see, I typically like to don some gear from one of them so that I can choose a side and cheer for them. For instance, I am a die hard brewers fan but when I go to Icubs games I wear an Icubs shirt just so I can be a part of the group that I am going with.

just a personal preference.

The main thing Darko, just have fun and enjoy the atmosphere. Jack Trice should be rocking.

The grass lot at the corner of University and 16th is the student lot and that is the most fun.

I agree. If I were going to the Iowa-Michigan game at Kinninck I would never wear an Iowa shirt, jersey, hat etc.

If you do decide to pull out the Taint jersey from Wal Mart, be prepared to get made fun of.

Prediction: Blowout for us. We will be so primed to play well against a worthy opponent on a Thursday that we will. 31-7.

First, you need to donate $5,000 to get a killer tailgate spot. Then, bring plenty of meat for the Cyclone fans around you.

I'm not wearing Iowa gear guys...If I was though I would wear my timmy dwight jersey.

I'll probably wear something neutral. I'm not necessarily cheering for northern illinois but I do hope it's a close game. I don't want a boring blowout. I'll probably decide who to cheer for based on how I feel about the cyclone fans I meet that night and how awesome you guys are/aren't. (How many free beers I get)

I will bring plenty of meat for any young cyclone coeds. I'm the guest here, remember?

I predict what you see in the grass lots will somewhat dissuade the perceptions many of your Hawkeye brethren carry about Ames. It should be a fun day, and I think you'll have a hard time hating ISU (don't get the impression you do anyways) after tailgating at the Jack.

I would suggest wearing neutral clothes. No need to kiss our ***, just don't be a d bag (and anyone wearing Hawk gear to Jack Trice when Iowa isn't playing is exactly that).

It's $15 to park in the public lots, and that's where the students go, so **** should be pretty crazy down there. As far as tickets, just go up and by a hill side. I'd expect about 47-50K based on the past few years, and that means the hills will be packed, but it's cheaper.

Have a great time!

I don't hate ISU. I love college football in general, want to experience as much of it as possible. I do take an interest in you guys before you play us, more as a scouting sort of thing. I meant to make it to a game last year but I wasn't able to. Thanks for the info. I don't think hillside seats are for me though. We'll just see what that tix situation is like when I get there, I suppose.:skeptical:

Like many others have said, get there 6 hours before the game and tailgate in the main grass student lot. You'll have a great time and finding tickets will come easy from there.
