If ISU could only win one game this year, which game would you hope it was?

I have to go with NU. There is nothing I want more than to beat those cowards for the second consecutive year, before they sellout and go to the Big 10.

Most years, I'd probably say Iowa, but I think you're right. This year, if we only won one, you'd have to go with the Huskers.

Any other year Iowa. This year I'm with the two of you. Take out the Huskers.

I thought NE myself at first, but i think I would go with Texas in Austin then OU on the road then NE at JTS.

Recruiting advantages, national pub, team confidence. All are helped more by knocking off one of the big boys from the south. Beating NE feels good but a win at OU or TX has a lot of perks not offered by the NE game.

I don't think beating Texas or Oklahoma as the only win of the season is going to really impress future recruits that much. Sure ISU would be splashed all over ESPN for a few days but that would be about it, also how would it help team confidence to beat one of these 2 and still lose to UNI, KSU, and CU?

Any other year, it would be a debate for me. 1-11 would make a win over UT a total fluke and I doubt we'd get much publicity out of it. Beating iowa early on in their most hyped year in the last 20 would be enjoyable and shut those guys up for awhile. Conference wins wouldn't make any difference in a year like that because we wouldn't be going bowling and would be at the bottom of the standings regardless. To me, this is an easy one...beating Nebraska twice on their way out the door would top any other win. We'd basically have scoreboard for life. No way can you beat that.

Because we seem to have been in a major conference road game losing trend (especially against the South).

Before NE last year 05-06 was our last conference road game win (Aggies)

Before that we only had 2 in 04-05 Baylor and KSU

Before that we had 2 in 01-02 against KU and Mizzou

The Aggies and Baylor are the only 2 B12 South Road Games we have won since the 2000-2001 season.

Beating TX or OU would at least break a stigma that we go on the road to lose.

It helps recruiting because frankly TX recruits (our best recruiting bed) could give a **** about how we did against UNI, IA, or Nebraska. Going 1-11 is obviously not going to impress for recruiting, but going 1-11 with the 1 being OU or TX at their house is the best you can get given that record. You get national pub for 4 or 5 days and it happened in the backyard of the guys we want. Between last year going bowling and winning in CPRs first season, getting the NE win (and locker room video). It may just provide enough ammo to recruit on hope for a better future. 1-11 wouldn't help, but a lot could come from ending a god knows how long losing streak against a team like TX.

You don't remember 2005 all that well do you?

Yeah, I do. I just think that the hype this year exceeds 2005. Maybe it is just the expanded media. But in 2005, I remember thinking that they were crazy because iowa had some major personnel losses (DL) and I was certain they wouldn't be as good as the hype. I went into the season believing ISU would beat them...before the bad game vs IL St. This year, I don't believe that they are anywhere close to a NC contender, but I could see them sticking around the top 15-20 all year long, unlike in 2005 when they tanked clean out of the Top 25 (I think).

Bottom line for me is that Nebraska is likely going to be just as highly ranked and we get a chance to give them the bird on the way out the door. I don't know how you can top scoreboard for life.

Of course, this whole thing is just a hypothetical. I want to beat BOTH iowa and Nebraska and I think that ISU CAN do it. Now UT and OU is a different matter.

Plus if we go 1-11 its not like we are going to need any special conference wins.

Id rather save that for a year when we go to a bowl game.

Now if you asked what team do you want to beat most? That answer is EASILY Texas.
