After drinking a few cold ones I have figured out what all of this realignment is going to come to. In about 5 years ESPN will have the "Conference Draft" where each conference will get to pick the teams they want in their conference. It will be televised, and will happen roughly every 5 years, maybe 10. Think about the ratings that would get....:jimlad:

sorry, just wanted to lighten the mood in here

When money is the bottom line, I would believe anything. Greed is a wicked thing!

Isn't that what they do in pro wrestling now? They hold a "draft" for all the wrestlers from all of the networks every few years to shake up the "rivalries"... Sound perfect.

Part of me thinks it would be kind of cool if there was a tiered system like European football. The bottom couple teams in the top league every year get relegated to level 2 and the top teams from level 2 move up etc. This way the teams get to decide what conference they are in on the field.

4 super-conferences with 4 second-tier conferences and 4 bottom level conferences? I kinda like.

This would be awesome!

I posted this idea a while ago and nobody seemed to like it then. I like the idea still.

Split all of college "D1" football into 12 team "conferences", based on the previous years final BCS ranking. BCS 1-12 are Conf A, 13-24 are Conf B, etc. Everybody plays an 11 game conference schedule, playing everyone in their conference (allow them to play 1-2 exhibition games if you want too, from any conference outside their own). The team that finishes as the champion of the top conference is the national champion. So far it's pretty pedestrian, but this is where it gets interesting.

The bottom two teams from Conf A are relegated to Conf B, and the top two teams from Conf B move up to Conf A, allowing them to play for the national championship the following year. Repeat this down the line for Conferences C - F or however many there are. After a year, each conference would be fiercely competetive. String together a couple good years and your team could jump up 2-3 conferences and be playing for a national championship. Every team would essentially be an independent.

Imagine a conference that consists of Alabama, Texas, Florida, Ohio State, Iowa, Boise State, TCU, Cincinnati, Va Tech and Penn State. Little guys get a shot against the big boys, and as long as they're competetive they get to keep their seat at the table. I admit the first year would be screwy, but it would settle itself out quickly.

I think this would be interesting but a good team could get drafted into a weak conference and go undefeated 5 years in a row but get killed in the title game
