West Des Moines - #1 Place to start family

Remember this ranking is of the top 100 metro areas in the U.S., this does not rank every small town.

So essentially if you want to look in metro areas because of your trade/profession, then DSM Metro is actually really good.

I actually agree that Provo UT is really good. Omaha isn't too bad either.

I had absolutely no clue they weren't ranking every town in the United States.:jimlad:

Not hating on Des Moines. Actually just pointing out how great the state of Iowa is for raising a family.

Only problem with most of those small towns is the crappy wages that accompany them. I would have loved to stay in my hometown of 600 but everyone I went to school with that stayed around the area doesn't make crap for money. Although there expenses are pretty low as well.
 
Iowa is a great state overall to raise children, I'd have to say that low crime overall and very good schools would be a huge reason why. WDM is a money place, like another poster said small town Iowa is nice, but downside is it is hard to make a lot of money there.

The 100 places I noted were the small towns that surround major metro areas. Best of both worlds. I agree, the other 600+, or whatever ridiculous number of small towns in Iowa are not as profitable; but you can be poor as hell and still lead a very productive and comfortable life if you have the predominate last name in your town.
 
I'm in Clive, not West DM. Clive didn't make the list. Clive must be an unacceptable place to raise a family despite WDM being number 1. Interesting.:jimlad:

I'm pretty sure the Des Moines-West Des Moines thing was meant to encompass the entire metro. Note how the others on the list were Provo-Orem, etc.
 
I find it funny that people say WDM is expensive. Only in Iowa would you say $250K for a new 2,000 sqft house, nice yard, 3 car garage, etc be expensive.
