Good player except for the free throws. I personally think that he started the disaster of the 2009 Mens Bball season. If you remember, he took the bad shot vs. UNI when we were winning and he took a bad shot at the beginning of the shot clock. If he didn't take the shot we would hold on to the ball and UNI gets the ball with little to no time on the game clock

Losing to NW was the start.

You can call me a purist all you want but lets look at some of your statements. The shot clock speeds the game up? 100% wrong. The shot clock slows the game....to..............a..............crawl.
There is excitement at the end of games if they are close. What difference would it make if there was a shot clock or not? So, some of Todd Lickliter's 41-39 specials are "exciting" because they are close. Tell that to all the empty seats.
Teams build a lead and run the clock now, just in 35 second intervals, which lead to foul-athons at the end of games.
They are more avenues to winning (and there should be) without the artificial appeal of shot clock and three point shot.
The shot clock was put in to stop something that actually occurred fairly rarely, that a team would hold the ball for the whole game or large chunks of it. That, it works for, everything else is a big negative. Those rules turned the game into a colossal bore.
The next move may be a line at 30 feet and if you make a shot behind it you get 4 points and a free hot dog.

I need only point to SE Polk's strategy to beat Ames High in the Boys State Basketball tournament this year to prove that. They knew they couldn't keep up with Ames, so they tried to limit possessions. Minute and a half, two minute possessions before they even thought about taking a shot was boring basketball, but a valid strategy to deal with the strength of the other team. They started this on their first possession.

The 'good' team won the tip and missed their first shot. The 'bad' team came down and held the ball by the center line. For some reason, the good team did not come out to guard them and just let them hold the ball. First quarter ended 0-0.

I think it was 4-2 at half time and the final score was 18-12 or something like that. Now, that was scintillating basketball.

Of course you're right, the use of four corners was rampant when these rules were put in. Not.

Edit: Just saw the high school replies. I can only say that if you have the better athletes/players and you let the other team hold the ball at center-court, you should maybe turn in your coach card.

I've heard this happening with HS and Middle School Girl's BBall too...

Think about Cameron Indoor packed with fans and a first half score of 2-0 or something. No way would this fly in D1 college ball.

I'm not sure how old you are but I remember back in the late 70s when the Big 10 seemed to have a bunch of teams that liked to stall...games with a first half score of 8-6 and the like. Now that was exciting...wasn't it?!

That is just absolutely crazy. It was his first game back from injury, he barely had any d-1 experience and to blame that as the trigger on the the whole season going south just not right IMO. Sure the UNI and NW games put the team in a mental funk, but again had Dendy not been hurt in the first place, I think we win both games. I think the disaster of a season started when he got hurt. He would have had enough games and experience under his belt by the time the UNI game came around it wouldn't have happened.

I agree. Frankly, I am sick of the players getting banged on. The bottom line is the unmitigated failure during that last 4 years of Cyclone MBB is totally owned by one man...Greg McDermott. It begins and ends with him.
