Jack's group searches for Desmond, and Locke devises a new strategy.
I'm still really curious as to what Desmond's role in this is going to be and why he is so special. Any ideas?
rousseau is introduced to dr. linus by alex in the flash sideways and they date, so ive heard. as for desmond, idk. i still have so many questions from last week.
i have timeline questions. jacob and mib(esau, my theory) are sitting on the beach watching the black rock come in, mib is still alive. so where does that come into play with last weeks episode? where was richard if (m)other killed everyone?just my jumbled thoughts.
No way it ties up that neatly.OK, here is my guess... I think Smokey needs to return to the light to recharge. Sort of like a vampire. If the light is electromagnetic energy, then we know of one person who can not be harmed by that. Desmond! He will go into the light and kill Smokey with the dagger. Then anyone still left alive will get on a rescue helicopter and live happily ever after...
Of course that leaves the small question of what the hell the sideways world is... To that I have no idea... LOL
I've heard that the final episode on Sunday the 23rd is now 2 1/2 hours going until 10:30 CDT. Is that true?

Last week's episode took place way before the black rock came to the island. Once the MIB became the smoke monster, I'm assuming that he was able to take the form of whatever dead body there was on the island so when him and jacob were watching the black rock come in he was just assuming the form of his former self. Richard was not on the island when the mother killed all the people that the MIB was living and working with.
I still find some things hard to understand with the smoke monster. How was Richard's Wife on the island...talking to him? Couldn't have been the smoke monster now could it? I mean....the dead body must be on the island, right? Well....she wasn't....she died off the island.
I think that this light is some sort of electromagnetic field. And since Desmond can withstand a lot of electromagnetism at once and not die, his purpose will probably be something along the lines of him having to enter the light similar to MIB did when he was thrown in by Jacob.
No idea what will happen when he does, maybe it will throw everything off (tip the scale:winkand the island will sink? Who knows...
Yes, it is 2.5 hours long.
I REALLY like where this is heading. I don't know why, perhaps it's just Jacob's all-knowing sentience that is assuring me that it will all end well. Every philosophical bone in my body is tingling to the point of an itch.
Desmond being the one to enter the light source and "cork" it is a very real possibility, to the point where I'd almost like to think that it's a spoiler. (Note, I don't read spoilers... ever since I accidentally read a spoiler posing as a theory for the season 3 finale, I've resigned myself to ever checking Lost forums within the last few weeks of a season.)
But holy cow, did they ever spell it out in tonight's episode. Consider this.
Dharma begins building a hatch to harness a unique spot of electromagnetism on the island. They make an error, and thusly cause the "incident" which they are now obligated to contain by re-purposing the Swan into a bunker that discharges an electromagnetic build up every 108 minutes. The hatch is manned by a rotating crew that spends an eternity down there at times, hoping to be replaced by another poor soul.
Sound familiar? I hope it does, that's the whole Jacob/MiB story in a nutshell. Much like Desmond, Jacob is trapped on the island by the guilt that he's become burdened with as a result of his own mistake. Jacob brought others to the island to find someone that could replace him. Jack has stepped up, a complete mirror of his former self that insisted that the Swan's computer button did not need to be pressed, because nothing bad would happen as a result.
The hatch was then imploded by Desmond's turning of the failsafe switch, exposing the island but also quelling the electromagnetic force that existed underneath (beside?) the island.
Similarly, if this theory is right, Desmond will BECOME the failsafe that ultimately dooms the island, but also prevents MiB from ever leaving. "A measure of last resort."
