Boaz Beard

Yeah I've heard he may transfer to play baseball at like emporia state or something...it does sting a bit, but we have decent depth in our upper weights, losing a lower weight would really hurt...However it looked like Boaz may have had a chance to AA right out of the gate as a RS fresh....We might see Kyven Gadsen a year earlier.....

I could see potential lineup from 174-HWt look something like this:

174 - Chris Spangler/Jon Reader/Mikey England
184 - Jerome Ward/Cole Schafer/Kyven Gadsen
197 - Kyle Simonson/Jerome Ward/Kyven Gadsen
HWT - Eric Thompson/ Gibson (juco xfer)

So either or I think we are still allright for next year however, this hurts us in the long run....But who knows maybe for 2011 we can get a stud from the upper weights to step in....But personally Boaz was someone i was very interested in seeing what he could do in a full time spot due to his pretty good performance at Midlands this year...

yeah i know, the story is that he wants to baseball...as i know after high school he was trying to decide between the 2 sports...

The problem is that Ward won't effectively see 184 again. If he has to cut to 184 he won't have any lungs. Simonson can't make the cut, either. Unless something changes we will have to go with Schaefer at 184. Don't kid yourself--this hurts. Gadsen has a great future but he's no where near ready.

Story I heard was that he misses his gf and that he is transferring to Emporia State to play baseball. And yes, this hurts, A LOT. This kid was going to be a good one. I sincerely hope we see Schaefer at 184 next year. There is no sense in wasting a year of Gadsen's eligibility....unless there are some MAJOR shakeups on the national landscape, ISU will not likely be a factor for the national title next year.

I heard the same thing about Boaz. He would have been a big help to the team.

I think Shafer will do well at 184 if he can cut the weight. He is looking real good....
Don't count this team out already!

Heard Reader is planning on going 174 so maybe Spangler will go down a weight.
I for one am looking forward to see what Kevin Jackson is planning for this upcoming team!

I remember following the results of the Midlands tournament and being super excited about seeing Beard wrestle for 4 more years. I also saw video of him wrestling in high school and ISU fans would have grown to love watching him with his wrestling style being fairly agressive. He will be missed. I hope its all a big rumor because we are losing a quality kid and quality wrestler.

Having grown up in Kansas, I think the only 4 year college to have wrestling is Ft. Hays State, if they even still have it.

which is a shame, because Eastern Kansas puts out a ton of D1 wrestlers, and then if you pair that with Wichita and Topeka there is allot of talent in the state. At one point in time my club team had Zack Roberson, Joe Johnston, Shawn Bunch, Chris McCormick and Justin Dier on it.

gadsen will tear everyone up at these weights.why wait a year for a kid that has as much potential as gadsen.

Good luck to him. I'm glad he made a timely decision, better for him and for us to have time to work everything out.

Gadsen is a great prospect with potential but to claim he's going to step in at upper/tough weights like 184 or 197 as a true frosh and "tear everyone up" is beyond bold. D-1 wrestling is a huge step up from high school and he has a ton of work to do.

Gadsen would not even AA if he wrestled next season and since we won't be winning a national title next year he should redshirt. I will be VERY disappointed if ANY true frosh wrestle next season.

Gadsen is a good prospect, great would be all the top guys at their weights. He's currently ranked #6 by intermat at his weight.
