gets more talent that can help next year.....they may be worse than they were this year.

Payne
May
Gatens
Bawinkel
Brommer
Archie
Cole
Coughill

And they have no help at all coming in next year at this point. McCabe isn't going to help and I doubt Marble does next year (although he could turn out to be a player). Losing their best player and 2 best recruits is going to really hurt them.

And before an Iowa fan says anything about ISU....yes I realize we are going to really struggle as well (really really really struggle) I just thought Iowa would be better next year and that roster right there is still worst in the Big 10 talent wise.

What on earth would make you think that? Not even Iowa fans think the team will be better. A more exciting brand of basketball, yes, but there will also be a learning curve to go along with that new brand.

Players getting older and the recruiting class coming in. Than Fuller transfers and you lose 2 recruits. I hadn't looked at your roster lately...but by pulling it up I can't see Iowa winning more than 4 games in conference unless Fran pulls in a lot of talent from here until now

I'll call right now, his style alone wins 6 conference games.

Just heard that one....what are your thoughts on that? My first impression was wondering whether Iowa fans would be happy with a recruit that signed with Sienna originally. I haven't read anything about him at all, so I don't know.....is he a player or a warm body?

I've watched as many online games of him as I can find, and from the looks at it, he's a more athletic version of Fuller, but a little more raw than him right now. He's got a good potential, but has some work to do.

After he was released from Sienna, schools from the ACC and Big 12 were looking his way, but he made it pretty apparent early on that he was more than likely headed off to Iowa.

He'll add some athleticism and speed to the team, which as we all know, is desperately needed.

Kid averaged about 9 PPG in high school, so he's definitely not a world-beater. More than anything else, I think he just sets up a relationship with the East Coast. I read where he's the first kid outta New York to come to Iowa in a long time.

Did Iowa really lose anything this year though? I don't think they'll necessarily be worse, just may not improve a whole lot.

I agree with this, the kid won't come in next year and be a world beater but it is opening up the New York area as far as relationships are concerned but Francis (Fran's first assistant hire) is from Brooklyn so those relationships probably already exist for Iowa.

As far as next year, they will be better, not good, but better, there is no way they will win less than 10 games.

Since Siena had a better roster...

last year than did Iowa, we can't really be too choosy at this point. Basabe at least has the physical tools to play in the Big 10. Will likely need a year or two before he's very effective, but he's got decent size, can move, and some ability. I thought I saw he was rated Top 125 by a service or two, but could be wrong. Some other Big East schools were trying to get him to visit before he committed to Iowa.

Style doesn't win you games. Wisconsin slows it down and they have won a lot of Big 10 games the last 10 years. Purdue doesn't really play up tempo either. You have to have players to win. Iowa doesn't.

Melsahn was getting looks from Big East schools after being released from his LOI at Siena, along with teams like Boston College and Texas.

Kid could end up being a stud. But it is one thing to get an offer and another thing to be getting looks.

Why does this thread exist when we'll most likely lose in Iowa City next season?

Assuming that everyone makes it in READ: Godfrey, and when you compare rosters, do you really think iowa has the better team? We're down, but we aren't hok down.

Actually I consider both teams pretty equal.

I stated in my OP that I realize we are going to be really really bad next year too. This is the in-state rivals forum and I am talking about the Hawks. During last season I thought that Iowa was horrible but that they would be decent (maybe NIT) the next year as they return a lot and have a decent class coming in. Now I think you can argue that they may be just as bad as last year. They lost their best player and top 2 recruits.
