Coldwater or Veenker?

I think the intramural best shot is at Veenker today. Coldwater is $20 if you don't get a cart for 18 holes...
If it's today, then probably yes.
EDIT: yes, I went and looked and the registration closed on April 21st. And the tourney started at 9 am today.

The Veenk is nice. Coldwater is much nicer. Granted, I'm a little biased because I worked at Veenker but oh well. Grass is always greener on the other side of Ames.

Homewood and i'm serious! You could get 18 holes in less than 3 hours today.
Coldwater is very nice (well groomed, nice/challenging greens, etc) but I HATE links-style courses.
I've always loved Veenker. I was a little bumbed back in he day when it was no longer the home-course for the ISU golf team. It can be pretty intimidating, bit visually stunning on the majority of holes.
If you play out there, go all the way to the back of the tee boxes, without looking toward the fairway until you get there, and the course becomes VERY intimidating. This is where the golf team used to practice from. #2, for example, is an absolute ***** from back there :smile:

I'm new to golf last summer so could you elaborate on the difference between links courses and traditional courses?
To put it in simple terms Links courses usually have no trees and are mostly rolling/mounded hills with bigger greens. Wind plays a much bigger factor on the course. They mimic Scottish courses.
Traditional American courses have a lot of trees and usually have smaller greens.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
And you can get away with using just your irons the whole way, if you have a driving iron or 1-iron.
