Mike Hlas' prediction for Stanzi in 2010 is 27 TDs and 7 INTs. I'm not saying he's high on crack or anything. I just figured somebody ought to record this for future discussions.

His 2009 stats were 17 and 15.

10 more TD's and 8 fewer picks than the previous year is a lot to ask of ANY quarterback. I'd be interested to see how many current NCAA QB's have pulled it off.

A 3-year starter with the best group of skill position players Iowa's seen in a long time. They go 3-deep at RB and DJK, McNutt Davis are the best trio of WRs Iowa's EVER had.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all.

Which was what a lot of people were saying when some Hawk fans were predicting Rose Bowl...

:)

By some hawk fans I am pretty sure I can find some that called 0-11 and some that called 11-0. Hell, I bet I could find some that were calling for another great return to the Peach Bowl. (and I know just which bar in Walford to look in)

As for the article you have a biased newspaper pandering to the local crowd in order to keep enough subscriptions to hold on to their crappy building for one more year until the Cedar Rapids City Council gives them a sweet buyout deal for the library space. That and Hlas has a hard-on for his plauge in Kinnick. But hey, you keep on believing everything you read from the great and mighty Gazette/KCRG.

That 62nd ranked offense was pretty nasty last year.

Seriously. Your defense was unreal, but your offense was 62nd. Stanzi threw for as many picks as tds. Vandenberg wasn't much better.

I don't think Hlas is that outrageous with his prediction. Obviously his TD total is a little high given Iowa's perenial non-explosive offense but I could envision 19 TDs and 8 INT's for Stanzi next year.

Yet they somehow managed to go 11-2 and win the Orange Bowl. Must have been luck.

Guess you didn't see what he wrote. Your defense was unreal and won most of your games. As for Stanzi, just hand the ball off and manage the game. Not saying there is a problem with that. The man just wins games.

Edit: And the only way he throws 27 touchdowns is if they count pick sixes

Dude, he straight up called the defense the backbone of the team. (which they were last year and by all accounts will be again this year). notice how when Stanzi quit screwing it up the hawks won. If not re-watch the UNI and Indiana game tape from last year. Its not luck, its called dont let your quarterback **** it up.

As for the prediction, changing any QB's ratio by +18 will not happen. Crack or not crack, that is a ton.

Iowa schedule is cupcake city. The non conference is only one game and thats ISU at Iowa. That could be an easy win. The others are gravy. He could have 15 touchdowns and no picks after 4 games.

The defense didn't win the Michigan State game, and it certainly didn't win the Michigan game either. I might give you the Indiana game, but Iowa did score 35 points in the second half, despite Rick throwing 5 picks in the 3rd quarter. To be fair to your point, the offense "only" scored 28 of those points.

Which part of the schedule, and why? The conference schedule is the same (week-wise) as it was last year, just flip home and road.

The D didnt win the Mich St./ Mich game, but I guarantee you they arent within striking distance with out the secondary play of the second half. Either way, 11-2 doesnt happen without the defense holding UNI and Indiana. Give the O all the credit you want, the D won those two games hands down.

Hell, thanks to the AA to Sash connection the D basically won the ISU game too:jimlad:

As much as I think the Big 10 is easy, you can't make fun of Iowa's schedule. Sure they have two cupcakes, but they are at home against a BCS school and @ another really good school in Arizona. Not sure you will find many schools that do that. Big 10 schedule is not something you can control.

I can guarantee Stanzi won't have as many INTs as last year... there really won't be a need to pass the ball.... However that does take care of the other side of the prediction.

Who ever said the article is mostly pandering... has it right. The Gazette might as well be on the payroll of the Hawks.... Hopefully a Governor can request it be sold! :jimlad:

Pretty sweet deal when FEMA sinks a ton of cash into your building to bring it back to equal ground (with all new equipment) and then another government agency gives you 100% of the repaired value to turn it into a freaking parking lot......wait, this thread is about Stanzi's pick to td ratio right?
