I don't know if he has any connections to minnesota, but why wouldn't he take the Iowa job where he might not even need to move his family and has already established a base for recruiting? Not to mention how he is now a "hometown hero" as is any Iowan(s) that accomplishes something like what UNI did yesterday in beating KU.

why would Minnesota offer and not Iowa, especially when he just became the flavor of the week in the state of Iowa? "what have you done for me lately?" seems to go a long way with these type of things.

Barta should be smart enough to know that another coach who employs a slow-down style will not bring fans back to Carver.

I disagree, it's all how you sell the next coach to the fanbase. the marketing strategy of "this is the guy who lead a mid major past the number one over all seed with a bunch of home grown Iowa boys" would probably get a good amount of people excited again regardless of the style of ball.
Because I don't think Iowa wants to go the mid-major route again. In case you forgot, Lickliter also had a good run in the NCAA tournament and was even named national coach of the year before coming to Iowa. To make matters worse Jake has a very similar offensive system.
It's not that he's a bad coach, it's just poor timing.
I agree with this. As much as I'm fed up with the style of ball Iowa has been playing lately, I think that Jacobsen would be an easy sell. I think these next couple games (assuming UNI advances) may be the difference between coaching at UNI next year or signing a huge salary increase at Iowa.
That being said, and I've been discussing this with friends: do you think any of UNI's players would follow Jacobsen if he indeed took the job at Iowa?
I think a winning system, regardless of style would bring the fans back to Carver.
I agree with this. This would be a heck of a hire. He turned nothing into a contender. This was not luck he's a dang good coach. I'd like to see him in IA I know ISU has no shot so since they are in the same conference. Drew would be here as long as Iowa would have him.
Also MN will hire Tubby's #1 Assistant. This will keep everything in place including the majority of the coaching staff and recruits. Easy hire for MN.
Why in god's name would Scott Drew be interested in taking a step down to go to Iowa? He's recruiting like crazy down there, he'd be a fool to come up to a cold weather state.
I agree with that. He would be crazy to come to Iowa. Iowa's next coach is going to be Steve Forbes. I would bet the mortgage on it.
For the same reason Jacobsen would. You really think Iowa is a better program than UNI right now But when a Big 10 school is willing to pay two or three times your current salary (or more in Ben's case), it's a tough offer to pass up.
Drew and Jacobsen's situations are drastically different. UNI is NOT the kind of a job a guy could make a destination out of. Iowa can dramatically increase Jake's salary. Drew is another story. He's at a major conference school, that has a lot of old money, in a talent rich state. Granted, Iowa City is much nicer than Waco, but it's probably easier to recruit in a warm weather state regardless.
I've never seen Baylor make any kind of effort financially to keep any coach in football or basketball. I guess I'll believe they will when they do.
I don't disagree that in theory Baylor could be a better job. But that case can be made in football as well, no? Yet they are routinely among the bottom of the league.
The problem with football is twofold.
1) Competition. Every other BCS school in the state is better than Baylor. A LOT better.
2) It's a small fan base. Only Baylor alums are fans, and Baylor only has 11,000 students. This makes it hard to fill their stadium, and generate revenue, etc. However, it's a lot easier to fill a basketball arena than a football stadium, and a lot easier to build a basketball program.
To the claim about them not trying to keep good coaches: When the hell was Baylor this good in a revenue sport? I think they'll throw some $ at Drew when someone else comes a-courtin'.
It would, but it's going to at least two, and more likely 3 years before Iowa contends for the NCAA's again, and a team that plays Lick-ball, or Ryan-ball, or whatever -ball term you want to use isn't going to get people in the seats, and getting people in the seats is what Iowa needs more than anything right now.
Even if they're not winning, I'd rather see something that keeps me interested. Even when "the system" was showing signs of working, it was hard to watch.
