I think this is a smart move by Chicago. Minnesota has made some comments stating that they'd like to re-sign him. So, even if the Bears don't end up getting Taylor, their interest might make the Vikings spend more than they would have.
The only thing is that Minnesota management made the comments about Taylor prior to the release of Tomlinson, Westbrook, and Jones. They might not be in such a hurry to get Taylor locked up, now.

If Westbrook can pass his physical, I wouldn't have too much of a problem with this. Taylor's role with Minnesota is primarily as a 3rd down back. Westbrook would fit nicely there.
The Lions and Texans are expected to "lead the charge" for free agent Chester Taylor.
Taylor was expected to continue talking with the Vikes, but it sounds like he wants more money and a bigger workload. He'd start over Maurice Morris in Detroit while Kevin Smith (ACL surgery) works his way back. Houston is slightly surprising, as they've insisted their preference is for a young running back.

At first I was hoping that the Vikings would re-sign Taylor, but since I learned about the whole Final Eight rule that is in effect because of the lack of salary cap, I'm hoping that someone signs him so the Vikings can actually go after a free agent. Dunta Robinson would look nice in purple, I think.
Would the Bears think about bringing back T.Jones??? Or is that bridge already burned to the ground??

I wondered this too. I feel a little bad for Thomas Jones. He's been an incredibly productive and consistent running back for the last 6 years. Since he came to Chicago in 2004, he's averaged 1220 yards and 8 TD's per season. Those are pretty impressive numbers, and yet no team seems to want to hang onto him for more than a few years. He had some injury and inconsistency early in his career, but has proven to be a heck of a football player in recent history. He'll likely end his career with more than 10,000 rushing yards but will likely never really be remembered as anything but a journeyman. Then again, he probably sleeps on a pile of money every night, so I can't feel too bad.
Absolutely 0% chance he goes back to chicago. He would rather play for the CFL than the bears. (I don't know that for fact but when they cut him in favor of Benson that did not sit well with him considering his production vs. benson's)
I would like to keep him in Minny but if hes not happy with his work, AND if we can get a good replacement like Westbrook I'd be ok with that. His injury problems scare me though. Maybe a lesser workload would help him stay on the field.
Frankly I'm still ****** enough with the fumbles that I'd not scream about trading a certain other running back though.

just heard this as well. Hopefully now that Minnesota is allowed to sign a FA, they will make a move.
Hummmm…one has to wonder if Chester Taylor will be sitting in his rocking chair when he's 65 one day and be satisfied that he took the opportunity to make a bit more money but in doing so, ended up watching his former team make it to the Super Bowl (and dare I say, win it) and moreover, not only missing the playoffs, but finishing in 3rd place in the conference behind Green Bay.
Vikings need to get another credible backup RB ASAP. AD hasn't yet shown to have his fumbling issues under control.
As for as Peppers, I really only saw him play once last year, and that was against the Cowboys. He was quite ineffective in that game.

MAn it sucks losing Taylor but I am confident the Vikings will bring someone in to fill the void. Though I can't say I would be happy with it but I would not be shocked to see them bring in Westbrook. He is familiar with the system and would make a good 3rd down back if healthy. When you factor out the health issue it makes perfect sense, leave it in a nd then I get leery about it.
As for Peppers don't be shocked to see him go into the tank after gettin' paid. He has done it before. Either way I can't say I am happy about him being in the NFC North considering the way he flat schooled McKinnie last season.
