Survey of Football fans - prefer afternoon starts

The dilemma on a 6 p.m. start time is that while it allows plenty of time for those who live a few hours away to get to the game, it makes it late when they get home.

And an early start means they have to get up way early to get to Ames.

A 1:30 or 2 starting time is a good compromise IMO.

However, I live close to Ames and I really don't care what time kick off is. So I will let other people make their case for the starting time they prefer.

I found it interesting that more people prefer the 11:30 start time to the 6:00 start time when those are the only two choices.

Also 4% could not remember getting an e-mail from the athletics department, even though the were responding to an e-mail from the athletics department!?!

I prefer 11:30 to 6pm. Still get to the stadium by 7am and have a good 4hrs to tailgate, maybe 1 or 2 afterwards and then have the evening open to catch other games or make plans with friends.

1pm is the perfect time, but there's no chance for TV at that time.

The Thursday night being most popular surprises me just a bit.

The afternoon start surprises me quite a bit, actually. Although if I were answering, just saying one or another doesn't quite capture my feelings. I enjoy the night games in Sept, maybe even early October. But no way I want that come colder weather.

I only skimmed the results. Not sure if that type of comment could be captured in there.

Noticed they lumped the video board experience into a single result. Judging from this board, they should've broken out sound and video.

Well, it looks like the results of this survey can put to rest the endless arguments we have on this board about the Thursday night season opener. 63% support is pretty good support.

Also, mad props to the band for smacking down the spirit squad with a 53% to 31% advantage in the "excellent" category!

I want to see the internals on what groups supported which. Students probably went overwhelmingly for the thursday, but id like to see what regular season ticket holders voted. Fact is, you still have about 40% that voted for saturday, even with that possibly skewing the results, and that 40% probably pays a much larger portion of the bills.

i love that the video board rated at a good to fair! its the biggest joke we have.. the speaker system and video board are the worst ive ever seen. its like a central football game. outside that id agree with most things listed.

plus how did over 50% of those that replied not see the paul rhoads video? if they answered no to seeing that video they should not be allowed to vote on anything else ever cyclone related.

I hate the 11:30 starts, have to be up bright and early to get tailgating in and limits what you can cook really. I like the 6pm games early in the season but for Big 12 games I'll take the 2:30 start times!

It doesn't break it down for each question, but it does break it down by demographics for the entire pool of respondents. Only 17% of the responses came from students. And 75% were from season ticket holders, not mini-pack or single game people, and 54% of those season ticket holders were full price holders, not cy-pack, south endzone, or hillside. I would think based on those numbers that the high dollar people were probably better represented in the survey than students.

Of course the AD knows the breakdown for sure, and they are the ones making the schedule decision. They will follow the money, as well they should.

Perfect start time is 1-2:30. Gives most of the fans attending enough time to get to Ames and have a good tailgate and the game is usually done by 5:30-6pm, so you can still have dinner, make it home at a decent time (if you have to travel), and still do something that night if you wish.

I don't mind the 11:30 games. We are usually set up by 8. We have an RV so we start tailgating on the drive to Ames. Also I like to tailgate after the games. I prefer the 1/230 games though.

Yep, 2:30 is perfect. Not too early for tailgating and not too late to get home before midnight. After taht I will take the 6pm starts. 11:30 is just too early. They were even worse when I was still a hungover student.

Of course, I will take any time if it means we can get on TV though.
