Union leader Smith expects lockout in 2011
: Union leader Smith expects lockout in 2011

NFL players expect a lockout in 2011 because they would have to take a "paycut" of about 340k per player a year??? HELLO, have all you overpaid a-holes seen the economy??? I would kill just for a 340k per year job!!!! What a joke......I hope they do go on strike and the owners bring in "scab" players again!!! At least they would play for the love of the game.

I hope they do go on strike and I hope they DO bring in replacement players who then take the positions full-time. I enjoy the NFL but they shouldn't think for a minute that they will have any sympathy from the public.

Yep I am.....still here in Ankeny, just laid off from work right now and bored as hell!!!

In the same boat Rhoadsrage...I am bored as well so I am watching Saved By the Bell: The College Years. Great show but we all know its not the original....sad life.

Yes, NFL players make a lot of money... but I hope they suck up as much from the owners as possible. The NFL players sign the worst one-sided contracts in all of sports. It basically reads that if the owner decides to end the contract boom, its over. That player receives no more money, period. So I say power to them, stick it to the owners.

One one hand I agree with this. On the other, don't kill the goose that lays golden eggs.

The NFL doesn't want to end up like NHL.

For now, some players say they're bracing for issues. Mawae said he even has recommended players save 25 percent of their salary next season "in the event of a lockout," though he noted "we can't make all 1,900 players save their money."

"We've told them, 'Don't go out and buy a new boat. Don't go out and buy a new car. Pay off whatever debts you have,' "

I don't think the players are going to get much sympathy with statements like that. Not that anyone feels sorry for the owners either. I would think it would matter at the high end to the guys who have the huge contracts. I'm sure they just divided it evenly, so as everyone wouldn't get 340k less, but rather average it out across everyone from a guy who makes 10M to 500k.

No kidding!

I think your idea of a prorated sort of cut seems well balanced to me.

I don't think there will be any short of work stopage following the 2010 season. Both parties lose even in the upcoming uncapped 2010 season.

You know what would be nuts? The NBA is almost guaranteed to have a lockout in 2011 too. Could you imagine two major sports on the shelf for a year?

Yeah millionaires and billionaires fighting over money. Cry me a river. If they have a strike/lockout I'll be thru with football for a while.

Would be crazy. I don't think there's a way it happens to the NFL, it's just far too big of a business. The NFL brass has to see what the strike did to baseball and fix this.

if you made what they made, and were that good, then someone told you that you had to take a 18% cut, even though we are making the same amount of money as a buisness... youd have a prob with it. if you make $10/hr, someone making minimum wage would love to you be you... if your making $30 then the $10 wants to be you and would think you were crying a river, and it goes up and up...

the NFL is a multi billion dollar company... the owners have lots and lots of money... most players last what 3-5 yrs on avg... thats most likely what they went to school for. i dont feel sorry for them, but i def understand where they are coming from. there the only ones that can do thier job, and they are trying to get the most out of it they can.. why shouldnt they, when the owners are.

problem with most other americans jobs is that if they quit or try to get more they will just be replaced... good luck replacing the nfl.

I think it was the great Patrick Ewing during the last NBA labor dispute who said," Yeah, we make a lot of money, but we spend a lot of money."

I would be fighting for every penny. Not sure what is so wrong with that. Yes they make tons of money but the are in the entertainment business and only have a few years to bank money.

Exactly and no one complains with the money that others in the entertainment industry make.
