Bernstein

I haven't looked at the Rag today either, but I do know that I was listening to Marty & Miller last night as I was headed home from work and they are making some big announcement about him on this afternoons show but weren't giving any clues.

If I had a gun to my head and was forced to make my best guess, I would say it might have something to do with his family situation and not something with his commitment. I know graduation time there was a big deal about his name not being on the graduation list and then something about him changing his last name because of a relationship with his father and their being some legal stuff coming up this summer. It might be something else, but I am guessing it has something to do with that.

wow. that story (and the reader comments) is all kinds of messed up. sounds like one kid is still in crtitical condition (hit in the head by something ... pipe or bat depending whos talking)

makes berryman seem like a saint.

I'm glad my family isn't good at sports...

Right, because you would randomly be victims of attempted hit-and-runs. I remember growing up back in the day having to always look over my shoulder because my team dominated noon recess kickball. Pretty scary stuff.

Never trust the veracity of the reader comments on the Rag's website. :no6xn: I suspect that whoever is writing these stories about the beatings suffered by the alleged hit-and-runner drivers either 1) has no idea what they're talking about, or 2) is using the reader comments to give a distorted version of the story that makes their friends look like the innocent victims of a savage unprovoked attack.

I find it interesting that there have been no follow-up stories in the Register since this initial one ran on Saturday. If the situation was as dire and as explosive as the reader comments indicate, I think the Register would be all over it. I'm no fan of the Rag, which is frequently guilty of sloppy and lazy journalism, in my opinion. But one thing I'm certain of is that the Register would be trying hard to scoop the rest of the local media if they thought there was more to the story. I mean, if the reader comments are correct, we have two teenagers fighting for their lives after a brutal beating and a Des Moines football fingered as one of the attackers. That's front page news! If the story is as big as the reader comments say, why have no other media outlets besides the Register reported on this?

The whole thing is bizarre, and I suspect we will see a follow-up story in the next few days. For Jordan Bernstine's sake, I hope the version of the story in the reader comments isn't accurate. If it is, well, I think the Hawkeyes might have lost some depth in their secondary for the upcoming football season.

This just seems very odd to me. First, I feel sorry for the family and I'm glad nobody was killed. But to say that they were attacked because they are good at sports seems outrageous. It sounds like this prior incident on E. Bell might be the cause unless I am reading this wrong.

Something seems to be hidden. Yesterday Marty was making a big deal about a news story that he was going to release on today's show concerning Bernstein so I streamed the show to see what the big announcement was and not a peep was heard about whatever the story was. Seems a little fishy to me
