Double Foul

Re: The BLARGE

Funny how the announcer was saying he never saw it before. He should look back a few years...

Re: The BLARGE

I believe he was talking about the double personal foul--By rule ( I officiate hs bb), it should have been center's call (as it came from his primary area). I have never seen it as well.

Re: The BLARGE

I think they just wanted to call it because we're almost at the 10 year anniversary of the most infamous of all blarge calls. They were feeling nostalgic.

Re: The BLARGE

I stand corrected- just looked up the rule and by rule (not in hs or in women's) but in mens if they have a blarge, they do go with the double personal and go to the arrow..

Sorry if this has already been posted but I couldn't find it anywhere.

During the OU game how many of you were screaming at the TV "Iowa State has seen it before!" when the announcers were saying they had never seen a double foul called because the refs couldn't make up their minds? It immediately made me think of the Michigan State Elite 8 game. A meaningless foul for MSU but Shirley's fifth.

i just about woke up the kids at that point...

I still haven't been able to find in the NCAA basketball rule book any mention of a double foul.

Oh, you have never heard of a "blarge!" There are only some things that happen to Iowa State.

Look harder. It's in the IAHSAA's too.

99% of crews aren't boneheaded enough to use it. You just nod to the other guy to take it or have a conference about it.

I'm sure it's there. But (IMO) the "blarge" is a ****-poor application of a good rule. Its intent is to help the officials when two whistles blow simultaneously on different calls. One sees a hold over here, and an illegal screen over there for instance.

For the life of me, I can't see how the rule book would ever justify calling two fouls that are mutually exclusive to one another. You can't have a charge and a block on the same play. It's physically impossible. To my mind, it's like the 3rd base ump calling a homer foul, then home plate ump calling it fair, and I suppose awarding a homerun and an out.

For the officials to not get together, come to a decision on one or the other is simply lazy. This is just an easy escape.

There has been millions of bball games played and never once has there been a blocking and charge foul on the same play. It's like water and oil it doesn't go together. Those refs didn't have a clue.:no::no:
