ISU vs Texas Tech Post Game thread

It's the same thing every game. Poor free throw shooting. Poor rebounding, even though the other team is much smaller. No perimeter defense at all. No pressure defense of any sort. Inability to finish drives or in-the-lane shots. 2 of your big guys taking 3 point shots outside instead of working it inside and drawing fouls. Same old nonsense, game after game.

Remember GMac had said earlier in the week that they were working on some new things to get CB the ball down low? Did anyone see anything new tonite?

Also, whenever TT screwed up, or ISU started to make the slightest run......Knight took a time out. TT would make a run......it would build......and GMac did nothing.

And the most ridiculous thing of all.....first it was bad enough that you took the suspension off Colvin...but then you have him in there at a critical time in the game? What message does that send to him or the rest of the team? This whole program is a mess.......sorry.......but it is.

That's huge. Do they not talk on defense?? How many times can a guy let himself get picked as they pass it cross court to hit ANOTHER open three before you change something up.

The rebounding is just inexcusable. We have the bodies.

It's an effort thing. It's a desire thing.

Always has been, always will be.

They've got to get CB moving before the double team gets there, he's content to wait for it to come and I think it's taking him out of the game completely. I'll take a few forced shots if it gets him back for the rest of the game, we can take a few missed layups from the guards.

If I understand correctly, I agree. I think this team early in a game can afford to force some Brackins shots inside. He may miss, but it will create the tempo and expectation and get him used to what he needs to do. Getting him the ball down low and taking the shot while driving into the defender would be a good start to a game whether it produces points or not.

Rick, the women's game thread is in another forum.
If I recall correctly you were the one who was so embarrassed by the football team you told your son to root for somebody else. Doesnt sound like to much a fan to me. I am done with this but you called me out.

Has Pollard been quiet on the MBB performances? Just wondering if there are any signs or lack of signs on his level of support for the current staff?

I'd just be happy to see him come off a screen and get hit with a pass on a cut to the basket, don't even give the double team a chance to recognize he has the ball before it's too late.

One postitive - they did not quit, Craig Brackens had a terrible, terrible game. For his sake and future, I hope he pulls it together. I don't like DG going to Rim all the time, seriously - great getting in there, but if you can't finish, please stop tryng...The rest of the season rests on Craig and whether he can play through this funk, if he is going to settle for fall away 3's, we need to settle for about 3 conference wins on the season...Tired of talking about Mac, four years with no success. Seriously - Jamie - what were you thinking? Its not like anyone was trying to hire him away...

Craig may have to come back next year. He disappeared at key times tonight.

We should shoot 3000 free throws during the week. We rush those shots and miss them.

You just don't see much intensity from this team. McD said that his team has a fragile personality, but a team usually takes on the personality of the coach.

That one was hard to watch. There were lots of areas where they did not play well, but I thought this was the first game where free throw shooting finally cost us a game. At least 3 misses on the front end of a 1 and 1, and multiple other misses. Not only would the free throws themselves have overtaken the lead, but hit free throws and we don't have to force things on the offensive end that resulted in bad shots or turnovers.

When they shot from the perimeter, we just watched. Very sad defensive effort.

Just listening to the post game show and I think it so great that we can all sit here and kill coach McDermott for bringing Colvin back and these guys "not playing". They essentially had no practices when one starter leaves. Another starter loses his Uncle and is in the locker room crying before the game and Mac thinks he's 50/50 to play. And they lose a road game by 7 while coming back from a 15 point deficit on the road.

Mac asked EVERY player what they thought about Colvin and CB said you have to bring him back. I think he is right.

For goodness sakes, we act like these kids are robots and it doesn't matter if a teammate quit on them 24 hours ago or a close relative died 24 hours ago.

Let's get KU on Saturday!!

This is true.......but GMac has been saying this for the last 5 or 6 games. When is is going to happen? What is the problem? Can CB and the others just not be coached, or is it that GMac just cannot get through to them? Supposedly, they were working on some plays to get the ball into CB down low more. Where were they? I didn't see anything different. Something is wrong somewhere. The system they are using is not working, and yet we keep seeing the same thing every single game. Sorry, but that is poor coaching.

Re: vent your frustration HERE

Our team lacks intensity and that is a reflection of the head coach. We have a five minute meltdown each game that absolutely kills us. That has been a constant since McDermott came to Ames. It takes 40 minutes to win a Big 12 game not 35.
Do you really think ISU is the only team in the nation to have a bad 5 minutes every game?

What I saw tonight is DG and Brackins did not show up to PLAY! Don't know why - the two suppose leaders of this team!!! I give credit to the other Iowa State players, I feel they gave a very good effort. The way I feel is Brackins and DG need to grow some balls and start playing like everyone in this state knows they can or might as well head for Germany. Guys - All we ask is play like we know you can!!! Is it too much to ask for??? You guys talk like you can play - show us!! **** or get off the pot!!!

I think many on this board are not appreciating that this was probably a hard game to play more than just physically for most of the guys on our team. I was sure it would be a tough game to win with the Lucca thing happening when it did. Add in the fact that one of our big weapons probably felt emotionally drained before the game even started and I would pick it as a sure loss 98 times out of 100 no matter how good the team or coach is.

Yes, that's what I was trying to get at. I'd like to see set plays for him out of timeouts, etc, as well

For as soft as we looked and not diving for balls, I am beginning to think McD has to begin to act more like a Frank Martin because it looks like we do not listen very well. We are really missing a great opportunity. Talent is ours. Hustle is not. Gilstrap was our best and most consistent player. The rest did not play like they needed to wsin. Hey, McD, should press more earlier in the game for a changeup. We can block their shots when they rush them inside if they break the press.
