Pollard interview recap/comments

Great interview Jon. Very well done and some good questions there.

You really got Jamie to open up about his philosophies of how he wants to run the Athletic Department which was VERY fascinating I thought.

And you got Jamie to throw in a Go Hawks so it was a win-win for you.

Boy, that was a great interview. Great range of topics covered, Jamie was allowed to speak until he was done giving an answer, and good back-and-forth discussion within topics. Thanks, Jon, for conducting such a professional and informative segment.

Except letting KJ Kindler leave.

In my opinion, the only negative that has happened since Pollard has come here. He did everything he could, KJ just wanted more!!
So then really, Pollard still didn't do anything wrong. It's not like he said, "Whatever, we don't need you anyway!" He made his best reasonable effort with her, but it was unrealistic to ask him to turn around and build a new building immediately, one that still wouldn't have been done (probably) fast enough to make her happy. I don't think much could have changed the outcome; KJ basically had her heart set on ditching ISU for OU, and she was just looking for excuses to justify the decision.

I did like his comments on the Taylor situation and how he and G-Mac handled it. The more I think about it, the more I think the right decision was made.

"Not turning our back on the people we bring here" was the exact quote I think. Well said.

Pollard generally gets credit for everything, but in this case shouldn't. The quote you use here is what McD told Jamie during their meetings regarding Mike.

I agree, way to do your homework John. Thanks for letting JP speak his mind.

Is this interview available to listen to still online...aka podcast or archive?
Jon said he would put it up as a podcast, but that it won't happen until at least Monday, since he'll be unavailable for one reason or another for the next few days.

Great interview, Jon. Could have listened 3 more hours (or until beer thirty hits)

I enjoyed the lack of Chaplain talk personally!

I really liked ADJP's discussion of the purpose and format for the recent tailgate parties...Meeting the people and involving families. And I also heard part of the discussion of the need to improve ALL of ISU's sports. Loved it!! He is a wonderful spokesman for ISU. It would be great somehow to get him on sportstalk radio in other parts of the Big 12. It would do wonders to improve ISU's image.

Unfortunately, that's about all I heard...

I got the stream up and running and listened to ADJP for a few minutes, when a coworker came looking for help in getting a vendor-supplied VPN client up and running on his computer. The next two 2.5 hours went something like this.

[this is the 4th tech on the call...my coworker says we weren't making progress with the first three because I lack diplomacy...]

Me: We are getting a user authentication error when establishing the VPN.

Them: That means your firewall is blocking the VPN client. Let me put you on hold to verify.

Me: run to my office to listen to ADJP for a few seconds. Coworker pounds on the wall and I go running back.

Them: It's definitely your firewall.

Me: I think our firewall is fine. I opened the ports you asked me to. I've reviewed the VPN client detailed log, and it looks to me like the username and password you supplied to us is not correct.

Them: I don't understand Cisco logs, but a bad username/password never happens. Let me put you on hold to check.

Me: run back to the office to listen to more ADJP.

[try this, try that, reboot, go on hold, blah, blah, blah...]

Them: Well, we tried to log in here from out test client with your username and password, and it doesn't work. We're trying to fix it. Hang on awhile longer.

Them: Well, we can't to seem to fix it now. We'll fix it tonight and you should be able to log in tomorrow morning.

2.5 hours of playing with the firewall, pinging, traceroute, and uninstalling/reinstalling the client. Imagine that...the client software told us that we had a user authentication error...and it was right!! :growl5cj:

Since the ISU-Ipwa game is on Versus, I think Iowa fans will buy some more season tickets and sell the remants to their Clone relatives.

That's a good job outta you, Jon.

If anyone has a place to upload a file for downloading, I have the .WMV of Jon's show on my computer and would gladly put it up for downloading. PM me if you have a place I can put it.

Spoke @ length w/ K.J. & Lou @ regionals & her side is totally @ odds.

Meaning? Such as?

I agree with psycln11 above, this is close to the one black spot on JP's resume since he got here. Maybe it's his fault, maybe not. Maybe he could do something to keep her, maybe not.

But she built a winning program at her Alma Mater, I have a hard time believing she wanted to "ditch" ISU.
