Whats up ISU?

I wanted to get the word out about our blog. It covers more of the Kansas City slant of things (MIAA, KU, MU, etc) however we want to branch out. We received the most comments on Big 12 games this season. We want to expand to avoid the typical MU vs NU and MU vs KU hate. Also we see some big things coming from ISU and want to capitalize on the fanbase. Anyway, long story longer, our review/preview of the ISU football season is up today. We see big things for ISU in the next few years. It just sucks that you travel to UT and OU next season.

I know it doesn't mean anything to Cyclone fans but we did break the Keeston Terry decommit story a month before Rivals had anything.

You invite us over to read your blog and in the first sentence there is something demeaning towards Iowa State... not a smart sales move.

Also, there are more misspellings and typos in those articles than I have ever seen on any website on the entire internet.

Since you want to be technical the first sentence is "We will start with the most exciting team in the North." That sure isn't demeaning.

To your point, I don't see what is so horrible about appologizing to a fanbase that has had 1 season with more than 7 wins since 1979. I am a die-hard Royals fan and I like it when people say I'm sorry when I tell them.

Thanks for the advice.

Ummmm.... Not sure I saw what was demeaning towards ISU??? Guess some people are oversensitive.

Thanks for the comments bellzisu and chizit. It definitely wasn't intended to be negative.

On the grammatical errors, yes we have a problem.

Yep, the grammar and spelling (and a bit of fact-checking) definitely needs a kick in the pants, but the core writing is decent. I'll be interested to see what else you guys put up. Let us know when you have your next article about ISU.

This is probably what they're talking about:

We will start with the most exciting team in the North. If you are a Cyclone fan (first of all, I'm sorry) you must feel better than ever.

I don't think its a big deal though. Amazing how quickly some people on this board will jump on an outsider.....especially about something as trivial as spelling.

Spelling is trivial? How is spelling trivial? If spelling is trivial, why did I spend all that time spelling crap in Mrs. Sathoff's English class through my junior high years, not to mention the spelling classes in my elementary school years?

Bad spelling makes you look like a moron and makes you lose credibility. Try turning in your TPC reports at work with bad spelling on them and see how long you keep your job. Spelling is trivial? In what world?

If anything, in this modern world of text messaging, message boards, blogs and more and more people writing more than they ever did on the internet, spelling has grown more important, not less. If spelling is so trivial, why did most everyone in this thread complain about it?

The difference is what "I'm sorry" is in writing. If someone says it, are they saying "I'm sorry for all your pain" or a condescending "I'm sorry" because I think you suck and my team doesn't. Obviously you meant the former.

Because most people on this board complain about everything.:biglaugh:

(first of all, I'm sorry)

This really doesn't add anything to your blog. I realize it's an attempt at humor but it falls flat and comes across as slightly rude.

Otherwise your recap does a fair job of summarizing the season as it appeared in print elsewhere.

This is the correct response.

Spelling is trivial out here in the message board and blog world.

Spelling is not trivial when you're out in the professional world. Trust me, I get annoyed by grammatical and spelling errors probably more than most people do, but I'm not so fanatical about it that I'd call others out on message boards over it.

Nothing wrong with the story as far as I'm concerned. And thanks for the press. It's always nice to have someone else tooting our horn a little bit.

:notworthy: So glad to know I'm not alone in this pet peeve. +1 to you, sir. Bad grammur = stoopid.

Cool, a Big 12 North Blog.

Looks like you nailed the Mizzou vs Navy Bowl prediction, except navy scored the 38 and Mizzou had 17.

I'll be interested to see you discussion on FB Recruiting and Pre-Season FB Predictions.

Also, Iowa State will be making a few trips to KC in 2010: a) MBB & WBB Big 12 Tournaments and b) ISU vs KSU FB in October.

Demeaning in the fact that it added nothing to the article other than making us seem worthy of an apology. We may be, but if it is your first time on the board, which it was, it's a pretty lousy way of getting people to read your article... that's all I was trying to say. It would be like inviting overweight people over to your Big and Tall website and in the greeting saying, "first of all, we're sorry."

The rest of the article was pretty well thought out and knowledgeable I was just pointing out that it was probably not the smartest approach if he was looking for readers... which he was.

(first of all, I'm sorry)
