Iowa's National Title hopes probably left with Bulaga and Richardson...

With Bulaga leaving early and Richardson not trying for a 6th year, Iowa will be replacing 4/5 starters on the offensive line. This will probably dash any national title dreams.

If these guys both came back I honestly think Iowa have been a legit contender.

Iowa has a lot of potential on the offensive line (MacMillan, Orne, Ferentz, Gettis, Boffeli, Van Sloten, Clark, Donnal, etc.) but nobody proven, little to no experience and no idea how they will work together.

Agree. Well, this and the fact that Iowa has no chance of ever winning a national championship in football.

Ever is a very long time. Don't get me wrong it would take the perfect scenario (2002 offense with this years defense) or a superstar quarterback (and no, Stanzi doesn't count:wink:)

And it's 3 starters, not 4. Vandervelde comes back.

Whatever happened to "next man in" ?

I don't have a schedule in front of me, but what is the first game Hawk fans are looking at that they feel the Hawks could lose?

If that game is early in the season, than the Hawks will have time to make up for the loss.

If the game is like the second to the last of the season or something like that, and Iowa is undefeated going into the game and loses, then good-bye NC title game shot.

Arizona.

Okay, isn't that the third game of the season? If that is the case, that here is something that just occured to me.

I think Iowa will be ranked in the top 5 in the preseason (1. Texas or Alabama; 2. Texas or Alabama; followed by Boise State, Iowa and Ohio State - name your order).

Arizona won't be ranked very high, if at all, so a loss to Arizona could drop Iowa down quite aways in the poll - not out of the top 10, but low enough that the Hawks will have a hard time working themselves back up to the top three by season's end.

Man, I love this time of year in a lot of ways because it's great to speculate.

Right, but I think Iowa could better afford a loss on the road to Arizona than a home loss to ISU. They wouldn't take as big of a beating in the polls as they would if Iowa loses at home to the Clones.

And it's 3 starters, not 4. Vandervelde comes back.

For the majority of the season the starting line was:

LT - Bulaga
LG - Reiff
C - Eubanks
LG - Richardson
RT - Calloway

Vandervelde basically lost his position to Reiff, and when I was talking about experience I was only talking about the new guys. Reiff is probably Iowa's best offensive lineman right now.

My point was that Rieff had never played a down of college ball before finding out 3 days before the ISU game that he was going to get the start. He turned out ok.

Ah, I got ya. I have a feeling that Iowa will have similar results with Nolan MacMillan.

Honestly, how can you say this with a straight face? Until Stanzi went down Iowa was undefeated and #4 in the nation. They just won the Orange Bowl and will probably finish #6. Like it or not, this team will be in the discussion for a National Title next year.

Well, you picked Arizona, but if you are more worried about a loss to ISU, well...

Hawkeye fans arguing Hawkeye football on an Iowa State message board.

That is all.

But it's not like they are obsessed about ISU or anything like that.

No. Of course not. The only reason they come to CF is to tell us that we're obsessed with them.

I'll just sit back and let the irony of that sink in...
