Heard and saw a couple of great things in Tempe (outside of the WIN). Coach R during one of the banquets, didn't do what most head coaches do - talk about the quarterback, the running back, the season, etc. etc. Instead, he said that the ENTIRE squad made the trip because each player is academically eligible! This blew a lot of people away - no coach talks about academics and student athletes at these things. Our coach did!

Second, that he brought Schwartz along even though the young man is transferring. As the Coach said, he earned the trip!

Finally, I was sitting with a Fiesta Bowl Committee member during the game, and he leaned over, looked at the lower stands full of Cyclone fans, and said, "That is what earns teams repeat trips!"

Next year, I believe the Insight Bowl gets to take the number 3 Big 12 team. Would be good to be back!!

While we deserve the repeat invitation, I want to go to a bowl that will help us more in terms of recruiting. There are so many intangible benefits to a bowl game: extra practice, media attention, and indirect recruiting. In terms of recruiting, wouldn't we want to go to a bowl in Texas?

There are 5 bowl games in Texas. I really only think the Alamo or Cotton Bowl would benefit us. Sun might, Texas and Armed Forces would do nothing for us.

Wouldn't being present at any bowl in Texas for a week and being such a focus of attention be helpful? I don't know about recruiting rules, but prospective players (and their coaches and famliies) could spend a lot of time following the team, etc. The more they see of CPR, the better!

With all of the media today and the internet you can find out a whole lot without even talking to coaches or seeing the school so I'm not sure being in a Texas bowl helps that much if any at all. Just being visual on TV is a big thing for ISU, but CPR will turn alot of heads with what he says and how he acts and youtube doesn't hurt either.

I love this school!

Almost every bowl in TX will helps us, once the celebtration is done, we are back to square one for 2010.

We need to win each game as it comes them worry about whether we are to good for any bowl.

Next year the Big12 Finally gets rid of the Sun and Indy bowl. Those are not good bowls. They move up the insight bowl and the Holiday bowl becomes kind of what the Insight it now. The Texas Bowl will be against a Big10 team next year. I think if we could play Northwestern, Purdue, Mich st in Houston that would be really fun.

I am bummed the Alamo is moving up b/c that is probably one of the best bowls out there. San Ant is setup nice for a bowl game with the river walk.

I am a HUGE Fan of bowl games on New years eve though. Its so much better than watching a bowl game during the work week.

Here is Next Year's Big 12 Bowl Lineup: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and/or BCS National Championship Game AT&T Cotton (SEC) Valero Alamo (Pac-10) Insight (Big Ten) Pacific Life Holiday (Pac-10) Texas (Big Ten) New York Yankees (Big East) Dallas Football Classic/Eagle Bank (Big Ten/ACC) The Yankee Bowl and the Dallas Football Classic are two new bowl games, but I hope we don't fall that low. I hope we aren't in the Texas Bowl either. I'm ok with any of the other bowls.

I wish we had a bowl game in Florida. I know the Big 12 used to have the Gator bowl, which I believe alternated with us and another conference. But, it sure would be nice to have a permanent bowl in Florida.

With our schedule next year, I just want to be bowl-eligible again. I wouldn't mind christening the Yankee Bowl and spending NYE in Times Square.

I would like it as well, although trying to get flights and hotels isn't going to be easy for that game.

Bring Depends dude.

Seriously.

They essentially put you in cattle pens and you stay in them for hours. You function were you stand.

I don't think we should be ready to announce that any bowls do nothing for us, especially with Utah, Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech replacing Army, Baylor, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State on the schedule next year.

Imo, JP should have gotten us out of the Utah game (I would have preferred it never been scheduled).
Going into this year, although I thought I bowl season was not likely, it appeared to be more probable than next year.

I went to the game yesterday, and I've never so proud to be an ISU fan. The Cyclone fans literally outnumbered the Gopher fans 8 to 1. It was like a home game for the Clones. And the crowd was loud and into the game for all four quarters and handled themselves with class. Here's to all the Cyclone fans out there. :notworthy:

I don't mind it, after all, we have to play 4 nonconference games and who else are we going to play?

Looking at the nonconference schedule from 2006 (the first year we permanently went to a 12 games schedule) thru 2015 (ten year mark), our 40 non-conference games break down like this:

10 games against Iowa (these are going to happen so don't bother with the debate)

10 games against minor league teams (UNI 6 times, North Dakota State twice, South Dakota State once, Western Illinois once)

8 games against MAC teams (Toledo 4 times, Kent State 3 times, Northern Illinois once)

8 games against other mid major non-MAC teams (Utah twice, Tulsa twice, UNLV twice, Western Kentucky once, San Jose State once)

3 games against service academies (Air Force twice, Army once....the ones we can beat)

1 game against a BCS opponent (UConn 2011)

All of the games make sense except the Utah, San Jose State, and Western Kentucky ones. The others are either games we can win or games in places where we either recruit (Tulsa, OK) or are a good destination for fans (West Point, Las Vegas). But who would we replace Utah, San Jose State, and Western Kentucky with? We already play more than enough games against UNI, the Dakota schools, and the MAC. I'd like to play Minnesota at least every few years, but they're afraid of us...so we take what we get for those few games.

Any bowl next year will be a good accomplishment. There are no NDSU, Army or Kent State's on the schedule.

Northern Illinois returns almost everyone and it will be a huge game for them. Likewise UNI, they will play out of their minds and it is the biggest game of the year for them as well. Iowa and Utah clearly very good teams. Then we start the Big 12. Not many easy wins on the schedule.
