While most of the board was probably watching HB on ESPN, I was watching volleyball on ESPN2. Texas looked very strong in taking out Minnesota in straight sets; Penn State looked vulnerable in losing set #1 to Hawaii but was outstanding after that. I'm hopeful the Big XII entry will prevail in the finals but that Penn State blocking is phenominal...

Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool that our Cyclone women played very well against 50% of the final four and hopefully they'll be there very soon!

Uggh... we really should've been in that region. I think we would've had a solid chance to get to Tampa. Busted up the Big XII tourney that was the Omaha region, and the Minnesota region was wide open IMO.

But oh well, you gotta beat them all at some point. Sweet 16 or Final Four. Final Four just has such a nice ring to it, however.

too bad Hawaii outside hitter was a little undersized at the net. Penn st. won't be so lucky with Texas. Easier to block a 5 10 girl, then a 6 5 girl that has the record for the high jump. I think ISU could have been Penn St., their tourney route was as easy as pie.

On a side note, I thought the Texas match was a very clean called match, but the Hawaii match was a mess, and I don't blame their coach for being upset. There were four replay points, even Karch said several times I don't think that was a touch, or I think that was a touch, and every time the call was in favor of Penn St.

I watched both matches and am looking forward to the Texas/Penn State finals. Was it possible for Hawaii to miss more serves? I mean come on, you're playing the best womens volleyball team of all time, you've already snuck out the first set and what do they do but miss serve after serve after serve.

yeah, can't afford to be giving away points, and can't make any runs that way. I think though they were trying to be aggressive with the jump serving with almost every player serving that way.

I think it was set #4 where Hawaii's all-american got a little revenge on 6'5" Blair Brown; Brown served (she ususally was sub'd for there) and moved up just in time to take a spike off the head that went accross the court and into the stands!

D. Hooker versus the blocking and defense of Penn State will be interesting - power on power!

Good Lord! I wonder if the angle of the picture makes it seem like she is higher up than she really is. If not, WOW!

They said last night her vertical is almost 11 ft, that she can jump and put her hand about 1 foot over a basketball rim.

great photo. her downside is that she isn't a great defensive player and shanks a lot of digs to the stands.

Could the reason she looks so high is that it is a back row attack in combination with the angle. Most of Hooker's attached where the middle is vertical and the right side is leaning that direction would be out of the middle of the floor.

What kind of person watches girl volleyball over mens basketball?!?! :jimlad::wink: (or am I?!)

That picture is INSANE but there is NOWAY she's that high it's gotta be the angle of the camera.

Look at the hips of the Minnesota defenders who are jumping and the girl in the back hips. Her feet are in line with them.

Even with the camera angle. She obviously has major vertical.

The NCAA selection committee relied way too much on the RPI. Seeding Hawaii 12th, for example, based on their low RPI, was preposterous. Everyone knew (and they have proven) they were one of the top teams in the country.

well this is a world record by like 6+ ft. very impressive.

i know what you mean, but that has to have a different common name doesnt it? because a good vertical jump is 40"+...and a verticle reach is just standing and reaching. so what is the correct term for how high you can touch with jumping?

I think he meant she can touch 11' (which I doubt anyway - these teams always "embellish" such stats.). Often volleyball players will judge their "vertical" off a regular attack approach. So not straight up.

I've seen her in person on a few occassions. The girl can definitely sky.

Penn State was freaking awesome last night. They had a lot of good pub for ISU during the game too.
