Negativity is embarrassing

Yeah, I just really don't see Iowa, but anything could happen but at this point I need to be optimistic to keep my sanity.

You are certainly right about the tough Big 12 start.

Texas, Loss
Nebraska, Win (They have played some big games but come this time in the season I think we are the better team)
Texas Tech, They are playing legit right now but lets hope they are exposed soon. I will call this a loss for now)
Kansas, Loss
Oklahoma (a shell of the team they were last year, lets hope for an upset)
Colorado (Played some tough games, but it will be interesting to see where they are come Big 12 season)
Baylor (good record but not the toughest competition)

I guess right now it is just really hard to predict where the Big 12 is going to be come this time in the season but yes it isn't looking great but lets wait to see if we have anything to be optimistic about after the rest of the non-conference slate.

I realize that some people are completely ridiculous but I mean it is ok for people to come on here and vent some of their frustrations. These are the same people who get hyped up and pour their time and money to watch this team play. It's frustrating to watch a team lose. It's upsetting to see a team lose and not hustle. It's a mixture of everything to see both of these things YEAR AFTER YEAR.

It seems sometimes we try to remain to optimistic that things will turn around but in reality, we just continue to be mediocre while others attempt to make their respective schools better....

Dont forget the fact that this team was hyped before the season by more than just fans.

Thank goodness it's just us, the fans, on this board that are embarrassing, I'd hate to see an embarrassing basketball team out there...oh, wait...

Personally, I find it exciting to see our fan base finally start to expect more from our athletic programs, our coaches and our AD. We've all been too satisfied with mediocrity for too long.

I'm tired of the moral victories and I'm tired of people finding as much joy in Iowa's failures as they do our own successes.

It's time to start winning. We need an AD and we need coaches who are capable of bringing us success. Right now we do not have an AD in place who is capable of this and our basketball program is in worse shape than I can remember.

It would be embarrassing if the fan base were not negative and accepting this level of play.

Typically its what the fan base and big boosters think about a coach that causes a coach to get fired. If negativity can help shorten McDermott's tenure; I say for the fans to bring on the negativity.

I totally disagree about the athletic director part. I really don't think you can find a guy who would put more into the job than Jamie and he really has done a good job in moving the athletic department forward. The only place he has really struggled is with the men's basketball program. As for football, I think he was as blindsided as everyone else with the Gene Chizik situation. On paper, are you telling me Van de Velde would have gone out and got a coach who had garnered attention as the Assistant Coach of the Year? People make mistakes and the ones that might have been made by Jamie really could not be foreseen except for maybe McDermott. Chizik was a great hire at the time, as was Cael Sanderson. So far, he has made up for Chizik with finding the perfect guy in Paul Rhoads and it sure appears we have a similar situation with Kevin Jackson.

The fact is Jamie actually gives a **** about the entire athletic department and the success of each of its programs. This might sound like a minor thing but trust me when I say their are plenty of athletic directors who ignore the minor sports and I really don't feel this is the case with Jamie. He understands the importance of every sport in the entire goal of one athletic department.

So say what you want about Greg (I'll defer judgment until further along in the season) but I really do disagree that anyone could do a better job than Jamie has since he got here.

#1) I don't care how much he "puts into it". I'm more concerned about what he gets out of it.

#2) No AD in history has ever been measured by how well they do in women's gymnastics or volleyball. Football is king. Men's basketball is next in line. Nothing else matters. Take a poll of 1000 ISU fans and ask them if they'd trade win over Iowa in football for a top 5 finish in volleyball. How many years of gymnastics championships would they take for another elite 8 run?

Why are we not allowed to question what is going on? I don't understand this mentality. From a talent standpoint, this is the best team we've seen in Ames for quite some time. Are we not allowed to expect to beat "good" teams? Are we content to be an also ran in the the conference race and hope for a NIT or whatever the hell that other scrub postseason tournament is bid? Maybe the last 3 teams we've lost to are tournament teams, but I don't see a world beater in the bunch. How long does Mac get before we can call him out on the crap that's going on? I thought we "settled" when we hired Mac. I've tried my best to be supportive, knowing he didn't inherit a rose garden, but what we've got going on right now is unacceptable and we deserve better. He's cutting a fat hog down there and he's signed on long enough to still be on the payroll when my 2 year old goes to college. He needs to be held accountable for this team's (under)performance, and Pollard needs to be held accountable for giving him a rollover contract that makes it damn near impossible to fire him. What a cluster!

New to the forum, long time first time blah blah blah. Sorry to have my first post be a negative one, but I can't sleep (not because of the game) and I'm ******. Hoops is supposed to be the one thing we can always compete in. For my money, it's a joke the way we've played in the last week and to sit here and play the Animal House, "Remain Calm, All is Well" card doesn't do much for me. We haven't gotten anywhere near the teeth of our schedule and to have 3 losses already is alarming to me.

There's no need to be sorry. Your concerns are very real. I absolutely agree.

You lump a ton of sports together. Especially one that everyone on this board freaked out about in May.

It's easy to take the lowest common producer and compare them to the top dogs, like you have. However, all it says is "I'm too stupid to have an argument and need a straw man."

Iowa fans might be fair weather, but you know what, there's no better way to voice your disapproval of what's going on than to stay home. Because ISU fans are great fans, that's never going to happen, but the one thing that would tell Jamie that Greg has to go is 2500 people in Hilton.

I'm not saying we should abandon Hilton in droves, and be bad fans, but those bad fans are going to get what they want.

More than three. It's a lot more often than you want to think.

It doesn't have to be/stay that way, and I think this team has the talent to turn it around. Somewhere, we've developed a sudden chemistry and intensity problem.
That's called a coaching problem.

Even though you're not going to be able to see that in a million years.
