If you have ever read the book Ball Four, there is a part about Cyclone Hall of Famer and long time big leaguer Jerry McNertney sitting in centerfield with binaculars, relaying signs into the hitters...

It's the Tigers responsibilty to make their signs hard to pick up... I never had a problem with guys trying to steal signs from second because it makes the hitter look like a fool if they are wrong and their are ways to combat it... But if the hitter tries to look back, he's going down!

Correct. and if the umpire started squeezing me, all we had to do was "miss" one pitch out. Umpire's eyes get REALLY big when the catcher jumps out and a fast ball is coming at his chest. Of course, the catcher comes out to talk so it looks like I missed the sign, blah, blah...

I always laughed in high school games when teams tried stealing signs and got it wrong, especially when we started decoy signs (either flip to shin guard/chest protector/mask touches or back to fingers).

Oh, and if I was pitching or catching and saw the hitter try and peek for the sign, you can bet your *** he was getting hit or chin music if there were people on.

Not saying this doesn't happen or didn't happen here... but it's very easy AFTER the fact to add a narrative to some footage to try and prove a point that you want to get across.

Watch Mauer in all his at bats or when he's on the base paths, the guy is almost always touching his helmet in one way or the other.

It should be up to each team to keep their "calls or plays" secret from the other team. Why do football teams us a huddle?

Get the first and third base coaches off the field then. If you pay attention, you can steal signs, especially in high school. If the base runner takes a different stance than normal, or the hitter steps into the box before the third base coach finishes giving signs, etc. you know something is up.

Maybe not cheating... but isn't this kind of an "unwritten rule"

The unwritten rule is the batter peeking back at the catcher to steal the signs, which is pretty much guaranteed to get the batter beaned. As far as the runner at 2B stealing signs, that's pretty much a given and is the whole reason why pitchers and catchers will change up the signs as soon as a runner reaches 2B (sometimes the pitcher and catcher meet right after - that's pretty much what they're discussing).
