Ernie Harwell has incurable bile duct cancer. The Tigers showed a tribute video and he gave a speech at the Tigers game last night.

I think it takes quite a bit of courage to do this:

I saw clip from this on sportcenter last night. Mr. Harwell is truly one of the best announcer's ever.

That man has incredible poise and courage to stand and make that announcement.

It's awkward when he mentions that his journey is about to end "here in Michigan," and the crowd applauds, but other than that, this is a really fantastic video.

I lived in central Michigan for a while and went to as many Tiger games as I could and listened to every one. Ernie Harwell goes right up there with Jack Buck as one of the greatest baseball radio guys ever. Thanks, Ernie.

I'm only 25, so I never really grew up in the generation of baseball on the radio, but you still have to respect the hell out of the guys like Harwell, Vin Scully and the late Jack Buck. Those guys represent everything that is still right and pure about baseball.

He really carries himself there like an old-fashioned gentleman. Just from his walk, one can see that he's full of class.
