I really hope Texas gets the wildcard over them and the Rays. Beckett and Lester are both excellent pitchers that I'd really like to not have to see come playoff time.
If the Rays had ANY plate discipline, they'd be a good team, but they don't know how to take pitches toI think Tampa is a better team and will win the wildcard. The Red Sox are similar to the Cubs and go through long stretches of not being able to score any runs. The difference is the AL East is loaded and the NL Central is below average.
If the Rays had ANY plate discipline, they'd be a good team, but they don't know how to take pitches to
a) wear opposing pitchers down
b) get more pitches to hit
c) not strike out
I think Texas might get in just because they aren't in the East. Toronto isn't exactly a slouch in 4th in the East. The Rays playoff hopes could come down to the last series of the season vs the Yankees in Tampa.
Youkilis, Bay, Varitek, Drew, etc. aren't going to stay hitting crappy forever. Not to mention it's not like they weren't hitting crappy pitching. CC and Burnett are above average pitchers, and the way Pettitte's been lately he could fit in there. Hughes and Rivera are arguably the best setup-closer combo in the majors right now.Yeah, but since Boston can't hit for ****, it doesn't matter how ******* good the pitching is.
I hope the Yankees realize where their priorities are going into those games vs. Tampa. Do they want the Sox or Rays in? Sox are their hated rivals and Rays pushed them out of the playoffs last year. Could be interesting.
I hope the Rangers get in for this reason. The Rays offense can keep them in any game. The only pitcher that scares me is Kazmir because he owns the Yankees. The Yankees will have an interesting decision as to who is in the postseason rotation and how they set it up (should they get there). CC doesn't have a great playoff history, Burnett has won a ring, Pettitte has been there many times, and Joba is making a case for why he should be in the top 3. If they go CC, Burnett, Pettitte, games turn into 6 inning games or even shorter with Joba-Hughes-Rivera.I hope the Yankees realize where their priorities are going into those games vs. Tampa.
