Easy. Because though almost everyone was juicing during one era, that is not true for the rest of the history of baseball, and its a way to distinguish one era from the others when comparing records and statistics.
Not that I think it is that big of a deal... but it is a way to distinguish the inflated numbers of that era (also pitchers ERAs were artificially inflated to compared to many other eras).
Simple. Not every player was doping even during this so called era.
I personally find little difference between someone embezzling money from a corporation vs taking steroids. The guys knowingly took steroids to increase their productivity and then in return took millions of dollars from the fans as ticket prices increased in order to cover the excessive contracts.
