MLB: If Every Player Was Doping, Why Use Asterisks?

I don't think we should. It should be known as the steroid era. We've had plenty of eras in MLB.
 
Easy. Because though almost everyone was juicing during one era, that is not true for the rest of the history of baseball, and its a way to distinguish one era from the others when comparing records and statistics.

Not that I think it is that big of a deal... but it is a way to distinguish the inflated numbers of that era (also pitchers ERAs were artificially inflated to compared to many other eras). Steroids are widespread throughout all sports but baseball gets hammered because of the history of the game and the love of its statistics. Do people really believe steroids aren't widespread throughout NFL and college football?
 
Simple. Not every player was doping even during this so called era.

I personally find little difference between someone embezzling money from a corporation vs taking steroids. The guys knowingly took steroids to increase their productivity and then in return took millions of dollars from the fans as ticket prices increased in order to cover the excessive contracts.
 
Why ever use astericks? The game changes over time and just b/c the steroid era has some inflated numbers does not mean that we have to use astericks to designate those numbers.

I, quite frankly, don't care any more b/c it seems that the majority of players were doping in some form or fashion through-out the last 10-15 years and it is now just coming out.

I also think that the entire report needs to be released! I am getting sick of hearing about new players that were found positive being released every 1-2 months.

So we should use asterisks for when minorities weren't allowed in baseball? How about when they lowered the mound and shortened the fences? Or when they increased the number of games played?

Really? Now you're blaming steroids for the excessive contracts?

Let's get this straight. Baseball owners (and MLB itself) made a killing off marketing these players, while turning a blind eye to everything because they really didn't care as long as they were making money and fans were showing up.
 
I think there should be an asterisk. That way, when I look at the stats, it will remind me that the reason those guys made it to the majors and I didn't was becase they doped up and I stayed clean.

In my prime, I was killer at third base. I could usually throw the softball from third base to first base without a bounce. If I had doped up, I could have done it everytime without a bounce, and that would have been my ticket to pro baseball...
