Indians considering trading ace Lee to Rays - FOX Sports on MSN

With the news that Joe Crede's right shoulder will be examined Thursday by Dr. Lewis Yocum, the Twins' search for infield help could become more intense.

In theory, Minnesota GM Bill Smith could pursue upgrades at third base, second base or shortstop.

The Twins have already discussed shortstop Orlando Cabrera with the A's, sources said Wednesday, and he might be the best fit of all.

I think Cabrera would be a great addition. Stick him at SS and the 2 hole, and whoever is playing the best or has the best matchup plays the 2 bagger.

The Twins need someone in that 2 hole to get on base.

Anything they can do to make the bottom third of the lineup a threat is great.

With Crede's injury and Slowey throwing on bone chips, this team may be packing it in unless the rest of the rotation gets their act together.

Mauer Morneau and Kubel have been top 10 in the AL in BA, and this team still can't get it done.

I'd rather have middle relief help than a SS to be honest.

Middle Infielders who can play good defense but OPS less than .700 are a dime a dozen.

The Twins need a lot of things. I'm not so concerned about the playoff run this year, but I am concerned that they show their current players that they are interested in winning. They've got to sign Mauer pretty soon and I think he probably needs to know that by giving them a hometown discount they will give him a good team.

I see your point. Cabrera is pretty hot right now however. He's hitting .387 with an OPS of .957 for the month of July. And that's playing on the A's. Could definitely use something like that at the top of the order.

If they don't start making a concerted effort to get players who can fill out their team, players like Mauer and Morneau are going to pack it up like Santana and I can't blame them. I get sick of watching our good players get frustrated year in and year out.

Morneau won't be packing up for a few years. He did just sign a 6 year deal last off season. I think he's here through 2014. Take this for what it's worth but a couple days ago the Twins did sign Mark Grudzielanek. Who knows what he's even capable of now. I think if Crede goes on the DL though they will need another infielder. Punto should NEVER start and Buscher at best, sucks. Hopefully Bill Smith can pull a trade for an infielder, and a good reliever.

The Twins, who could use infield help, have discussed an Orlando Cabrera trade with the A's.
The Twins could also pursue Jack Wilson, Freddy Sanchez or Marco Scutaro.
Mark Teahen could be an option, but it's unclear whether the Royals would deal within the division.

This would be a good move. Offensively, the twins probably have the worst middle infield in the bigs, and it desperately needs to improve.

They just gave up 32 runs in 3 games to the ******* A's. I think pitching should probably be addressed before the infield. But the infield does need help too.

The same pitching staff which gave up 9 total runs to a much more potent Rangers team. First, this was Blackburn's first start in 10+ days, so he was bound to be rusty. Let's just call this series what it really is - a **** happens series. Could pitching be better? Yeah. But 2B and SS have been issues this entire decade and is something that the Twins need to get solved if they ever want to make a serious run in October.
