Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs - Recap - July 05, 2009 - ESPN
Is it funny to anyone else that the freakin' Brewers are having a mini-meltdown?
"Their starting pitching is a lot better than ours," Braun said after the Brewers were beaten 8-2 Sunday. "They threw the ball a lot better than our starters did. They certainly swung the bats better than we did. Clearly they were the better team. It's nice to get the one win but they clearly outplayed us and outperformed us all series."
"No matter who is in there, we have to find a way to throw the ball better for us to have success," said Braun. "I think when you're constantly behind in games, it's not easy and it's not fun. Their starting pitcher was clearly better than ours this series."
Braun is hoping Brewers general manager Doug Melvin makes a move soon to improve the Brewers."I wish I got to make decisions like that. But I know he's trying to make our ballclub better," Braun said. "I know he understands the significance of making a move and making it soon."

Lets hope the Cards get more 10-1 victories and then the Cubs and Brewers can do whatever they want because it won't matter. The Cardinals have what it takes to actually win the NL Pennant.

Uh...not really. They have Pujols. I love Mark DeRosa, but if you're depending on him to be the guy who bats behind Pujols, you aren't going far. The NL Central as a whole has been down all year. It will be amazing if any team that wins the division contends with the Dodgers for the pennant.

Even as a Cardinals fan I would have to say

I will be SHOCKED if the Cards do not win the division...

As a lifelong baseball fan I have learned that in ANY close race it takes the best manager. And by far TL is that guy... Sweet Lou is a good manager, just not in the same boat as Tony. If you dont believe me, check the rings...

BTW- I am a HUGE Braves fan Cubbies...

IMO, cubs still have the best team in the division and will have a pretty good chance of winning it if A-Ram gets back to 100% and no major injuries have. Cards have Pujols and thats it.. pitching is lack-luster after carpenter.. brewers are an implosion waiting to happen. those bats go dead for a few games, and you can lose 6-8 in a row really fast.

If any team other then the cardinals comes out of the central they will be swept in the first round. Cubs will get dominated (see the last 2 years) in a five game series.

This coming from a cubs fan...Do you even have a leader on your team who is willing to call the team out? I will admit that the brewers starting rotation is terrible, but at least Braun (who has a long term contract) is willing to come out and say what everyone is thinking. Did D-Lee or Alphonso come out at all recently to say anything about the fact that typically the cubs can't hit the ball? Cubs fans are willing to start a thread about how to fix your team, but when a player on a rival team comes out and wants the organization to do something to get better you think it is funny? hmmmmm...I don't know who will come out of the central but all I know is that Braun was willing to say what every brewer fan was thinking and I like him even more for it. Maybe this will light a fire under Melvin's butt and we can get a pitcher.

I don't think any player on the team needs to be blasting his team in the media. If something needs to be said, say it in the clubhouse. It's just not very classy to call out your teammates if you can't say it to their face.

I think the biggest difference is that the Brewers are at full strength and are struggling a bit. The Cubs have been without their best hitter for 2 months, Reed Johnson who started pretty much every time they faced a leftie and Guzman who had been the Cubs most reliable reliever. What would be the point for D. Lee or Soriano to complain about needing to add to the team when the team wasn't healthy? Today all 3 of them will rejoin the Cubs and we will see if that makes the difference.

Considering how bad the Cubs have played, it is amazing they are as close to first as they are. That should bother their division rivals.

That said, anyone could win this division.

Disagree.

Even if the Cardinals win it, Pujols can't carry them in a series.

It will be amazing if any team in the National League contends with the Dodgers. Someone is going to have to catch fire in September because the Dodgers have been playing good baseball all year. The Dodgers control their own destiny up until the World Series, where I think there are 4 American League teams who are just as good if not better.
