KF: Public urination worse than rape...

In Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz warped world of discipline, apparently public uriination is worse than rape for a football player to commit. Look at the facts:
One of his players was arrested for uninating in public. He was immediately dismissed from the team. No meeting, no informal inquiry, no interest if he had a bladder infection, or weak bladder. No, he was gone and gone now. And it was a PUBLIC lynching (he was a reserve)

Three of his players may have raped a coed. It was covered up, not discussed, university attorneys were brought in, all to protect the players, and not the victim.

Players have been arrested for assault, drunk driving with little or no punishment.

Through all of this, one must conclude
1. KF feels peeing in public is the worst of crimes his players can commit, even worse than rape, assault or dui's OR
2. There is a different set of rules based on how good a player is.

My dad and brothers, who went to Iowa, and I had a talk about this yesterday. They insist the long snapper kid had a previous history when he was arrested for urinating in public.

That said, I have to say your thread is way off and in pretty poor taste. To suggest KF or anyone for that matter would consider a minor offense more serious than rape is just wrong. Those guys were kicked off the team right away.

I think what the OP is actually suggesting is that there are different rules for players based on their ability. He's using the massive difference in severity between public urination to prove that point. He isn't suggesting that anyone considered PU to be worse than rape.

wow, cytheguy, I think you need to quit hanging out with those hawk fans, they are melting your brain. I don't care if you are related, you are doing untold damage to your brain.

Some one need to put together a comercial. - This is you brain, This is your brain with hawkeyes.

The real point of this post was fairly obvious.

Wow. Based on this post, and the absolute trash of a post you started earlier, I'm guessing a number of Cyclone fans would rather have their "brains melted" than to have it completely fried by you.

I, as a Hawk fan, am embarrassed for other Cyclone fans that you consider yourself a fan. Anyone who honestly believes community service = chain gang is an embarrassment to the free thinking world.

To the OP: you can run your mouth until you turn blue in the face about your original 'point', but you don't realize that he'd had prior run-ins with the law, making your entire post moot.

I wasn't a fan of the first post, but your post brings up a question:

1) If Huntrods had prior run-ins with the law, how many were there, and why was this particular charge the last straw?

2) Other players have had more than one run-in with the law, but retained their spot on the team. Does this point to a double standard for the backup long-snapper, since others with multiple infractions, yet more playing time, seem to keep their roster spot?

That would be a better and more interesting discussion.

Jon Miller:

Please ask KF in his next press conference if he believes that public urination is a worse crime than rape....I'm sure he'll agree with the original poster. :jimlad:

Your point is understandable...but the title of your post is tacky and distorts your argument. However, as governator alluded to, Huntorads also had previous run ins with the law, so your second point is also incredibly weakened. Furthermore, he was also a senior, KF has stated repeatedly that second offenses by upper classmen are going to warrant his most strict disciplinary measures. KF is pretty consistent with punishments for second offenses....here is a question for cyclone fans:

The one instance I know you are going to point to where his "second offense" discipline seems inconsistent is James Ferentz. What do you feel would have been a fair punishment? Right now it doesn't look like he will start, so suspending him from games wouldn't have done much. I honestly think the best way to handle it would be to make him run stairs at Kinnick until he passes out everyday after practice for a few weeks. If you can think of a better punsihment, I'd like to hear it...

CycloneErick, here is Huntrods rap sheet from Iowa Courst Online:

Feel free to peruse, but it appears he'd had many run ins with the law. As I stated, Huntrods was also a senior, meaning that KF (as he has stated) punishes seniors more severely than any other class rank because he feels they should have "learned the ropes" by that point of their career.

The length of that tells me more than I'd ever wanted to know:wideeyed: So, it was definitely not his first run-in. Why was he still around?

and that's part of what pisses me off. It shouldn't take them 4 years to grow up and show some maturity. :skeptical:

Oh, you're a junior? Hell, you don't need to feel any sense of accountability. :skeptical:

KF son has been arrested what, three times? How many arrests does that guy have to be kicked off the team because of his record:jimlad:

No kidding. Frankly, I think it would serve a better purpose to crack down on the earlier problems so guys don't develop a rap sheet. Crack down early and make them understand that actions have consequences, and this doesn't become a problem.

I thought that coaches sold athletics as something that builds a young man's character.:wideeyed:

My guess is that it is many minor alcohol related offenses (I didn't take the time to look into the cases, so if someone else does, feel free to correct me) like public urination, public intox, etc. And that a single event was not enough to get him kicked off, but by the time he was a senior, the offenses were too ridiculous and KF probably figured he should've learned his lesson by then...his priorities weren't with the team.

He had six freaking run ins with the law before he was kicked off? Or am I not reading that correctly?

The links weren't working. I tried to look them up.

Your explanation sounds much like what KF must have been thinking. I'll never understand why people in leadership positions are OK with creating an environment where their people aren't accountable.

You'll probably have to go through the Iowa Courts Online Website in order to check them out, that's where I found them. Go to their website, click "search case" and fill in the name Clint Huntrods...then you should be able to see them...I have to go do some work outside, I'll be interested to see what you find...some of those offenses could have been before (or after) he was on the team.

Here's #1: RIGHT OF WAY RULES, SPEED & DISTANCE
#2: EXCESSIVE SPEED 55 MPH OR LESS (1 THRU 5 OVER)
#3: SPEEDING(55 OR LESS 11 THRU 15 OVER)
#4: SPEEDING(55 OR LESS 6 THRU 10 OVER)
#5: PUBLIC URINATION
#6: SEATBELT
#7: SPEEDING > 55 (6 THRU 10 OVER)

Basically, just sounds like he couldn't drive...

Was he at Iowa from 2004 until December of 08?

If so that's 5 court cases in johnson county. If he was gone in 07 then he had four from 04-07.

What were the dates on those? If they all came in a short amount of time, maybe, but I've never heard of someone getting kicked off a team for speeding.
