Many's the time we've heard the joke regarding U of I athletes serving us our fast food, but I never thought I'd see it! We finished a baseball game around 7:45pm and I took my son & a friend thru Burger King (Keokuk St. & Hwy 6) for a late dinner. Our order was taken by a very recognizable four-year contributor to the hawkeye women's basketball team. I was 99% certain of her identity until she forgot to give us drink glasses and was scolded by the shift manager (by name).

She was a very nice young woman and I don't know the circumstances of her working at BK, so I'm not going to name her. But I also can't pass up the opportunity to take a shot at the "value of that UI education". Hopefully this is just a summer job while she finishes up some loose ends on her degree....

How can you drop a little taste of that sweetness on here but not call her out?

Yes, let's poke fun at someone who has a job while there are plenty of lazy college students out there still sucking on mommy's teets.

I have a degree from ISU and I work a second job at a meat department. Not very glamorous at all, would you like to make fun of me?

It's fun to jest about someone in general with a UI degree delivering pizza's and stuff... so I see what you are getting at... but I agree there's not much need to joke about someone specific working a job, regardless of the type.

It's a joke, we get it, but pretty poor taste to call someone out. (Glad you didn't say a name, but you gave plenty of details for anyone to narrow it down...)

I do agree with you, because I for one, do not have a job right now during the summer and it f'n sucks. However, I'm not going to stoop low and get a job at a fast food joint, where the manager talks to you like your a dog. However props for that girl, working at a BK, better then being jobless.

A job is a job, especially in this economy.

Let's save our laughing for the IC athletes you see picking up trash on the side of the road for court-ordered community service. And even then, be respectful...just have a satisfying chuckle to yourself. Those are the best kind.

Yes, I'll make fun of you because making money and providing for yourself and/or family went out of style 10 years ago. :biglaugh:

Are you sure the employee has graduated? Maybe she just used up her eligibility and is still completing her undergrad degree, or maybe she's in grad school. Regardless, this is pretty classless.

Anyone?

BTW. I agree. I am currently looking for a second job so I can feed my family. You gotta do what you gotta do. Don't ever let pride make a stupid decision for you.

I haven't read the rest of the responses yet....but yes, I'd like to make fun of you. But it has nothing to do with your job.

Can you all get off of the Mike Gundy " I am 40, I am a MAN!!!!" rants please. I found this post to be quite funny. A job is a job but I for one would have figured that a female 4 year athlete at the U of I would have been given some cushy little university job or at the least be working as an intern in her chosen field.

I find it funny that anyone on here could claim how awful it is to make fun of this person as I am sure you all have never made fun of anyone either, right? RIGHT? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhttttttttttt.

Seriously... it's time for a reality check.

Mods, can you just delete this thread? I think it's pretty embarrassing to the cyclone fanatics on this site. I'm actually pretty proud of the fact that there has been not a single person on this thread who finds the original post funny....because its really not funny at all.

Remember this person may be fresh out of college, not exactly the easiest time to find new jobs, at least she is trying to get by and pay the bills. I have to admit, I thought the responses would have been different, props to everyone who has posted for their responses:notworthy:

I like to make fun of you for many reason, just not that.

If you replaced "four-year contributor to the hawkeye women's basketball team" with "my ex-girlfriend" you'd see a 180 on most of the posts here. Doesn't make it right, but I see your point.
