MLB: Oswalt won't pitch for the White Sox

Re: Oswalt won't pitch for the White Soxs

White Sox is the plural form.

We'll target Brandon Webb.

Re: Oswalt won't pitch for the White Soxs

nobody wants to play for Guillen or Kenny Williams. Plus it is pretty hard to keep the white trash from running on the field and going after umpires. Nobody wants to be a part of that.....

And everytime we have to bring up Ligue was a Cubs fan.

LOL. Nobody wants to go to that hell hole.

You know, except for guys like Dye and Konerko that took less money to play there. Our new backup catcher that played for Guillen in Florida?

"Oh, my god. Fun. Crazy and I love it," said Castro, when asked what it was like being with Guillen as part of the Marlins. "I had a feeling something was going to happen. I'm glad I'm here with Ozzie. I'm here to win."

But whatever, Cubs fans. Keep talking ****.

Peavy....no
Oswalt...hell no
Webb....Are you ******* serious?

First of all, you do realize we traded for Peavy. The deal was done. He said no.

The Oswalt discussion was broken by a guy that also said Jon Garland was a Houston Astro and Willy Taveras was a White Sox.

Webb's been injured and has been rumored on the block. Josh Byrnes and Kenny Williams have made a number of trades and I guarantee you the Sox system has the chips to do it.

I believe you. My question here regarding Oswalt: What is his contract situation? Is he up for a new one?

I could see anybody using their no-trade clause as a negotiating tool for more money. That would seem like a smart way to use it.

When Peavy was initially approached, he said he would not go to Chicago. He talked with Linebrink and said he was 50/50, and was apparently willing to go if Chicago guaranteed his 22 million option as well as adding an opt out clause after every season.
We can't do that.

Roy Oswalt rhp
5 years/$73M (2007-11), plus 2012 club option
5 years/$73M (2007-11), plus 2012 club option
signed extension with Houston 8/06
07:$13M, 08:$13M, 09:$14M, 10:$15M, 11:$16M, 12:$16M club option ($2M buyout)
Oswalt may opt out of 2012 option & take a reduced buyout
full no-trade clause

As far as the DBacks, neither Haren or Webb have NTC. I'd rather have Webb, and he'd be cheaper too. Dan Haren would likely require us to move Beckham, which we would not do.

Re: Oswalt won't pitch for the White Soxs

I just find it funny that the Sox can't get a free-agent pitcher who has the chance to turn them down. (Pretty sure Colon just needed some pizza money)

It's because the Sox have a rule where they will not give more than a 3 year contract to a free agent pitcher.

That and they typically aren't fans of giving up their first round pick (usually second half of the first round) for a Type A free agent.

It's a combination of things.

How many teams were offering Konerko a 4 year deal?

No it wasn't. If it had ever been "done" that means that Peavy would have waived his no-trade clause, which he clearly didn't do. Seeing as how Peavy had to waive his no-trade to complete the deal, I'd say that was a somewhat significant part of getting a deal done.

What I meant was the players and talent included were agreed upon. The Padres agreed to deal him, pending his waiving the NTC.

I get that. My point is that without Peavy dropping the no-trade, none of the previous agreements meant anything.

Either way, the result was the same; I just happen to look at it differently.

Oh, I agree, it doesn't mean **** if the deal doesn't get done, but now we know the price for Peavy, in terms of what talent the Pads want - A guy capable of starting in the majors now (Richard), our top pitching prospect (Poreda), and two other guys (Broadway and Leesman were mentioned) for him.

With Ghordam Becham being called up and moved to third, you think Fields becomes a trading piece? The guy has strugled a little this year, but he destroyed us this weekend (funny that happened as Becham got promoted) and has shown talent.
