ISU games on mediacom?

Any exposure - TV or otherwise is great.
Part of the reason there are so many Hawkeye fans is because of the great media coverage they have had in the past and still do for that matter. You follow the team you are exposed to. They have been on TV (both football and basketball) for years.
WHO radio has carried Hawkeye sports for ever. Everyone in the state can tune into WHO. I wish ISU had state wide or better coverage.

I thought the vast majority of the Big 12 TV windows were exclusive to the Big 12 TV partners. Are there execptions, yes the PPV games are an exception. But I thought i've heard this claim before from Iowa State in trying to get more games on TV. That's why Kansas State played a game at 9AM last year as the game would start and end before an exclusive Big 12 TV window (probably a 2:30 game)

It would be good, that way the Hawkeye fans can see the Real Deal against Toledo and start shuddering. Anybody have a list of ISU games that will be available to be seen on TV (that can then be taped)? Can JP provide this site the info?

Kansas State @ Marshall kicked off last year at 9:30 Iowa Time on ESPN2 (it was a road game, so whatever conference Marshall is in, the rules of that TV package applied)(http://www.kstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=3065&SPID=212&DB_OEM_ID=400&ATCLID=186906) I couldn't remember the particulars, but I definately remember this game from last season. However, while searching on the confirmation of the above, I found this information from AtM's website, it explains pretty well how the Big 12 TV package for football works:

The Big 12 television agreement covers Big 12 home games only. League schools will appear only on ABC, FSN or TBS when they are playing at home as per the agreement.

Another network cannot pick up a game not selected for broadcast by Big 12-affiliated networks. It is not allowed per the agreement. CBS or ESPN, for example, cannot pick up a game that wasn't chosen for broadcast because it is not allowed by the Big 12 television agreement. Most other leagues have similar agreements with their networks.

Now, if it seems that one team has been on TV a lot in the non-conference season, take a look at its schedule and see where the games are being played. Colorado, for example, played Colorado State in Denver to open the season. The game, technically a CSU home game, was picked up by ESPN2 as part of their Mountain West Conference package.

If Iowa State is able to pull this off, and get a home nonconerence game televised by a non Big 12 TV partner, I would love to hear how they got around this and will probably open a pandora's box for other league schools.

Me thinks Pollard and his staff at ISU has a much better understanding of what the Big 12 will and won't allow. I'm guessing local TV is excluded from what the Big 12 does not allow.

Just how far are you going to dig and how much time are you going to spend trying to make this good news into something bad?

you claim that television coverage doesn't discourage attendance. so tell me why does the NFL blackout games to the local markets when they aren't sell-outs?

i don't know what the net effect of televising the games on mediacom would have on attendance. neither do you. only a close-minded fool would fail to recognize that both arguments hold merit.

i think you are allowing your distaste for your website's "rival" network to cloud your judgement on this one.

also...you should try a little harder to get the facts straight on ticket sales. the current tally includes faculty tickets sales and a projected sell-out of student tickets.

JHUTCH, I take offense to your comment that if you don't go to the ISUgames you are not a true fan!!!!!!!!!!!!! I graduated from ISU in 1979 witha 4 year AG. degree. I have had tickets all but 1 year since than. Now I can not afford tickets.

Well, I know a certain AD that resides in Ames that believes that having the game on any TV is a great idea, and is not in the least bit worried about the gate effect.

I have a friendship with my direct rival, Tom Kakert, so what you are saying has nothing to do with me on a network level. What I don't care for are those that choose their opinions based on petty differences, especially when those opinions fly in the face of what is best for their program, an opinion shared by the top dog.

So the Toledo game is going to be on Mediacom.

Seems to me Cox last year showed ten of the ISU bball games on one of their 2 channels in Omaha, Sometimes they showed EIU H-Eyes. They showed NE less. Not much on commercials either.

After selling 30000 tickets, not muvh room left in stadium? 15-17k?

Make sure all of your cable jumpers and fittings are Mediacom approved/installed. Don't use store purchased stuff. Also they reduced the signal strength for our feed several months ago AFAIK and that made things much worse because Ankeny is really close to off air broadcast towers and the off air signal is really strong (some TVs don't need antenna at all to pick up locals).

Also maybe it's time to get a tech out to check your wiring. How many TVs do you have? Do you have an amp installed? There is a chance that signal at the tap is low. We had that issue all over Ankeny lately.

i guess we'll have to see how this plays out. will the games be shown live on all mediacom outlets? perhaps tape delayed in central iowa? will this generate revenue for ISU? or will it be a drain on the budget?

do you have these answers, jon? if not, then i think you are jumping the gun a bit.

i have confidence in jamie pollard. if he gives the okay to put these games on THEN i will believe it must be a good thing. until then i am keeping an open mind. are you?

Bottom line, the more football on TV, the better.

However, though, I still want to see how this plays out and the hoops that ISU would have to go through in order to get this done, because i've never heard of the Big 12 allowing a memeber school to have a football game televised by a non Big 12 TV partner. The TV agreements with cable (FSN & TBS) are good through I think 2012, but the ABC contract is up next year.

I would love to see the next TV packages include option for more games on TV, but not on a local basis like what Mediacom is trying to get done, but more on a regional basis, like ESPN Plus, which all of those games often get put on regional sports net's like NESN, KC's MetroSports, as well as Mediacom connections. Not to mention, the ESPN Plus games get onto ESPN's PPV package as well.

It doesn't necessarliy have to be ESPN Plus, but possibly adding a syndicated over the air broadcast (non cable) at 11:30, similar to what the Big 12 used to do, or for the 11:30 game that is currently on FSN, do a true regional game, have the FSN's in the south air a south division game and the FSN's in the north air a north division game and let the other FSN's across the country pick which game they want to air. In fact, I think this was done a couple of years ago when Iowa State played Northern Illinois. Either way, sports bars across the country will have an additional Big 12 to put on their TV as well as those dish customers who subscribe to the FSN package of RSN's.

Too bad FSN north (minnesota) shows fishing shows instead of Big XII football. The gophers don't even get on television up here. It is really weird. No local college football, but I can always catch the Indiana game every week. I can't believe how inferior the Big XII's TV package is to the Big 11's. It sickens me

Outside of the FSN's that serve the Big 12 (FSN Southwest, FSN Midwest, and FSN Rocky Mtn), other FSN's are under no obligation to air the 11:30 game, or the 6pm game for that matter. Many times, you'll find FSN's in the south airing ACC football from Jefferson Pilot and the FSN's in Ohio ariing MAC games. Remember the countless number of times that when Mediacom carried FSN Chicago that the Saturday 6pm game would be pre-empted for NHL & NBA games?

Would you rather have UNI's tv package? They currently have 3 games on mostly state-wide tv (Fox in E.Iowa and C.Iowa), and a game on CSTV. A couple of those games will also be aired on FSN Midwest. Right now ISU only has one game on ESPN.

When they made the playoffs last year, they played on ESPN family of networks 3 straight weeks. Would you rather have guaranteed tv games on state-wide television, with one guaranteed game on national tv...or would you rather have one game on national tv, with the potential to have a couple more on national tv, but also the potential to go "0-fer" on tv games, depending on how you play? Honest question.
