MLB: Cubs Send Gathright to Minors

Good. He can't hit, run the bases, or field. Maybe he can learn something in AAA. I think he has to accept the assignment though.

We never should have traded DeRosa.

I agree. I'm still scratching my head over that move. The only way it made any sense at all is if it somehow resulted in Peavy coming to Chicago. He would have pretty much played every single game to date, if he hadn't been traded, with Aramis and Bradley fighting injuries much of the season (surprise, surprise). And Fontenot just isn't a full-time player, though he really comes through from time to time...

As a cubs fan living in KC i was never happy with the move of picking up Joey. He was just as bad for the royals. In the past he hasn't shown improvment in the minors.

Gathright had one decent year for the Royals in '07 when he batted .307 in half the year. Otherwise he's been about a .250 hitter with no power and horrible defensive and baserunning fundamentals. I don't understand why a guy that fast isn't better stealing bases.

Im glad they sent him down instead of Fox or Scales. Fox is swing the bat really well and with Bradley's suspension review due to come down today or Sat maybe Fox can get in a couple games and the Cubs can then trade him maybe to the O's in a deal for Freel?
