Weird Coincedence?

This is assuming that our guys next year can work their butts off and do the little things that Horton and Johnson did.

Two things I'm still worried about...How good will our point guard play be? Depth at the 3 if Lucca and Boozer leave? Dendy and maybe Vanderbeken could play some 3 on offense, but I'm not sure about defense.

It's pretty clear to me that if Lucca and Booze both leave that Oliver will not be redshirting.

This thread is how people get so disgruntled.

They start to make all of these pie in the sky expectations, as if a a team can have everything go 100% right and nothing wrong. Some people who don't know any better buy into it.

THEN

When reality sets in, people are pissed....

Can't we just wait until how they look on the court before we decide what to expect for the season?

That would probably be a good idea, but it's not likely to happen.

What else are we going to do for the next 6 months if we can't make predictions?

That's true.

I could make this team undefeated on 2K8. McDermott knows much more about basketball than I do. Therefore, anything worse than an undefeated national championship season is a disappointment.:jimlad:

Now that I think about it, my undefeated Jackrabbit season ended in the Sweet 16, but my season there with defeats had a national title victory.

I guess I'll settle for a couple of early losses in return for a national title.

Why I said 8-8 is because Kansas we will lose to at home. Either Texas or Kansas State also at home. We win either against Texas or Kansas State at home.

We beat Colarado by a nose and Nebraska by 10 on the road.

Therefore, 8-8 and we get snubbed by the NCAA comittee and we get a 1 seed in the NIT.

I hope. Worst case is 5-11 in conference. We choke against both Kansas State and Texas losing in the final seconds. We also lose to Missouri OR Texas A & M at home. We only beat Nebraska on the road.

G-Garrett
G-Christophersson, or Lucca if he comes back
F-Gilstrap
F-Brackins
C-Hamilton

Wait, optimism is a bad thing? Please expand on that for me.

thank you dog :biglaugh:

I know that's NOT Jerome Maymon, on cyclones.com Oliver's jersey says Rebels so it is either him or Jamil Wilson.

I believe Jamil's number was 32, Oliver 21?

Our team has potential this year and by that I mean 20 win with postseason play potential. Something magically special would have to happen to make them comparable to the 30 win team that went to the elite eight. Still more excited for this season than previous ones lately.

As several people have already pointed out, the only reasonable comparison between next year and '00 is that each team is (was) expected to play like crap.

The stars aligned in '00 and I don't think we'll ever see another turnaround that dramatic. Pure magic it was. Next year could be something special but an elite eight team? Please!

Comparing Diante Garret to Jamaal Tinsley is ludicrous. Tinsley was an NBA caliber player his first year, Garrett is still becoming a Big XII point guard. I don't think he would have started for any other team in the conference last year except Colorado. (That's not a dig on Diante who clearly has some ability but is still putting the package together). In contrast, Tinsley was the best guard in the Big XII by far.

I completely agree that Diante and Jamaal cannot be compared. But, to Diante's defense, we didn't see Jamaal until he was a junior in college. I'm not expecting Diante to be crazy good, but he has the potential to be a Big 12 point guard. I just hope we have a Big 12 ready point guard next year, that would really help out.

Just going off the couple games I watched of Colvin, (I know a little off the wall) I think as a freshman, he could be a guy that comes in and gives some solid minutes. But, I don't think he will be able to carry much of a load as a freshman (hopefully I'm wrong).

Honestly, the guy that could swing this season is Gilstrap. I hate to put that on one guy, but if he can come in and put up 12 ppg and 7 rpg, we might see something next year. By that I mean we might see the NIT, a far cry from the Elite 8 team.

Of course, this is just my opinion.
