Sproles to Make Big Bucks

They have done a great job evaluating and drafting running backs. They had to do it. With LT's recent injuries and Sproles becoming an unrestricted free agent, it was a necessity that they keep him. The exact same thing happened with Michael Turner, he became a free agent and they couldn't keep the 3 of them.

He's got a lot of talent, but I don't know if he earned that big of a paycheck. He had a few big games, but he is not big enough to carry the full load. If he gets shut down on the outside, he can't pound it up the middle.

He earned it... relatively speaking.

exactly. They franchised him. It's not like the Chargers had any choice as to what they paid him. Once the franchise tag was applied he knew what his pay would be. It's interesting to see which players get the franchise tag. As far as I can tell Sproles is the only non starter to get the tag this year, (Cassel had it but he was traded) Another franchise player, Leroy Hill, was just cut.

It's interesting to see how this rule, which was originally implemented so teams could keep their star players, has been mutated into what it is today.

He earned it but what about the college pitcher out in San Diego St. Stephen Stratsburgh (sp) he's going to be the number 1 pick in the baseball draft and is asking for 50 million in a deal and is going to get it.
