The Cubs will call up Jeff Samardzija on thursday according to Paul Sullivan. Who will get moved? looks like it could be Luis Vizcaino being released with the Cubs on the hook for the rest of his 4 million dollar salary:notworthy:

On the Waddle and Silvie Show(or however you spell their names) on 670 the Score, they mused about putting Samardzija in the 5th starter spot and move Marshall into the pen to replace Cotts because Cotts is struggling against lefties.

Im just repeating what is written on mlb trade rumours in an article. I think you could see Patton sent back maybe it will be interesting to see what happens

Ohh yaa i forgot about Patton..I bet we see him go down and take Jeffs spot in the starting rotation for iowa

Per Carrie Muskat on Cubs.com

"Also, Jeff Samardzija will be called up from Triple-A Iowa and join the Cubs on Thursday. The corresponding roster move won't be announced until Thursday, but look for Luis Vizcaino to be gone. Cubs GM Jim Hendry said Neal Cotts is staying in the pen and Sean Marshall is staying in the rotation. Lou Piniella said he'll use Samardzija as a bridge to Carlos Marmol and Kevin Gregg."

I believe the story is that Vizcaino is in Lou's doghouse for being late and having a bad attitude.

I thought he was being groomed to be a starter? I'd rather they keep stretching him out at IA.
