Top NCAA Football Coaches -- Ferentz #5

From a discipline standpoint, I think kf's program is a mess and I've long questioned his resolve or ability (or desire) to fix it.

But I've never questioned his coaching ability. He's a fantastic coach and what they say about his ability to perform with lesser talent than some of his counterparts is true.

Even so, not sure I'd call him the best in the Big 10. He deserves to be on that list. Not so sure about #5.

I'm disheartened that CPR isn't on there. :jimlad:

And I don't see that hot-shot that Auburn hired.....

Wow, you guys are quick, I was just coming over to post a link to this.

List looks good to me!

You're telling me KF is a "better" coach than Mack Brown, Joe Pa and Jim Tressel? huh :skeptical:

:no::no::no:

I could coach at Texas. When you get to pick and choose the top 20 athletes in Texas every year for your recruiting class...winning it just a by-product. Seriously, check out their class, they're almost done recruiting... in April.

And why do you think it's easy to coach Texas? BECAUSE MAC WINS RECRUITING

If that is the case then why is Pete Carrol on the list above him? No one gets better recruits more consistently than USC.

USC is just like Texas, you don't have to recruit players, you just pick which recruits you want.

Then if that is the case, why don't they both win national championships every year? And why or how could "lesser" teams even compete with them? How does Boise State go undefeated or why can Oklahoma or Oregon St. beat those two teams on a year by year basis. That's bad logic. They don't just get the pick of the litter. Yes, it's easier to recruit to USC, Texas, Florida, etc. but that doesn't mean they are bad coaches because they get great recruits... or that Ferentz is a superior coach because he doesn't get as good of recruits. Well Iowa has nicer facilities than Iowa State, but we beat you 8 out of the last 11 years so Dan McCarney and Gene Chizik are better coaches than Ferentz... see the bad logic there?

If you guys think its easy to win at Texas than to me thats a nice complement to Mack Brown...cause his predecessors at Texas sure didn't make it look easy....and neither did Pete Carroll's predecessors. Recruits want to go there more so to be a part of those two coaches systems as much as anything. They're not going there because its the cool thing to do...they have a belief that those guys will help them get to the next level. And that's a credit to them and their staffs.

Why do people on this site have so much difficulty giving credit where credit is due? Little man's disease, due to being an isu fan? I get tired of it. Its not easy to win anywhere on a consistent basis if you're not on the top of your game.....just look at the sec and their saying, "if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying". Says it all to me....if you aren't on top of your game as a coach, there is always someone else there to gobble up your wins, your recruits.

I don't think people give fat-back enough credit. He has taken the worst team in the Big 12 and and made them pretty good. I'm ore impressed with what he has done with Kansas than what Mac Brown has done with Texas.

Sure there are different levels of credit to give for sure. Don't forget though, Mack Brown also won big at North Carolina of all places....he'd probably win anywhere. I also am quite impressed with Mangino.

I've always thought Ferentz was a pretty good coach and seems like a decent guy. I kind of wish he would leave because he doesn't fit in well with the Iowa fans. I see the Iowa fans as being more like Alford. They didn't get along with each other (Alford and Fans) because they were so much alike.

What's funny is that last year he was on a bunch of lists as being the most over payed coach in football.
