Greatest War movies?

1.Saving Private Ryan.

2.Band of Brothers.....although I did find a couple of the episodes weak in comparison to the majority of the series.

I watched the entire movie this last weekend..wow....seriously messed up.

Band of Brothers is far and away the best in my opinion.

Black Hawk Down is pretty good too

The Deer Hunter is one of my favorite movies.

In Harm's Way may be my favorite war movie of all time. Awesome cast and storyline.
 
Going waaay back I liked The Sand Pebble starring Steve McQueen followed closely by The Gladiator, which could loosely be called a war movie.
 
Band of Brothers is a must own.


Did anyone watch Generation Kill? I thought it was pretty good best Gulf War/Conflict/whathave you movies-series. Bad ones Jarhead-3kings
 
Band of Brothers is the best war movie, miniseries, whatever you want to call it, ever.

It sucks you in and never lets go. The interviews with the actual soldiers that were portrayed in the movie will break your heart and strengthen your belief in our country and what it is that America stands for.

I've watched Band of Brothers and SPR. Any films I should watch that focus on Normandy since I'll be visiting in the fall?

The only things I can pick out of Kelly's heroes that are technically wrong are some of the Eastern European backdrops (It was filmed in Romania or Slovakia or somesuch, the T34s turned into Tiger tanks (at the time there were no Tiger tanks running in the world) and the sniper had the wrong kind of rifle.

That is IT. The actors had correct uniforms, weapons, accoutrements and even used the correct WWII era tank gunnery fire commands.

Not bad for a war-movie/comedy, huh?

They looked like Tigers to me, and I thought Tigers saw action even in North Africa???

I've heard stories that the Russians still have hundreds of those tanks covered in cosmoline in some caves.

Just a slight correction, StPaulCyclone, but it is Stalag 17 -- which starred William Holden. I also posted this a while back. You are absolutely right, however, this is a great war movie.

Stalag 13, by the way, was the name of the POW camp in Hogan's Hero's -- a classic TV show.

Black Hawk Down was a disappointment for me because they did not even mention the Marines that were over there in a full on battle. The prisoner of war Marines ( I have a friend that has scars all over him from being a POW over there). So basically I was sorta letdown by that fact. I mean it's a good movie but it would be like showing Basketball in the state of Iowa and mentioning the University of Iowa and failing to mention Iowa State.

I liked Black Hawk Down, but I can definitely understand where you are coming from.

I wonder why the names of the Marines were left out of the movie? Weren't they mentioned in the book?
