Athletic Article on Pac-10 Play for Pac-16

Good article on the history of the Pac-10 trying to poach the Big 12 and form a Pac-16 Superconference. Written by our old friend Ubben.

https://theathletic.com/1083080/2019/07/22/pac-16-conference-realignment-2010-big-12/

For those that don't have Athletic, bottom line, Texas was really not that interested in the Pac-10 pitch and committed back to the Big 12 once Tier 3 rights were allowed to be owned by the school. Funny in hindsight that it is now the Pac-12 that is a dumpster fire.

But....Athletic also says they are going to do a four-story update on future conference realignment. Sigh.

WTB: RV PASS - IOWA GAME - want free food and beverages?

My company wants to throw a tailgate for our customers for the Iowa game . They took too long to decide and missed out on securing one of the tents the Athletic department rents out for the game. Now we (me as they have put me in charge) are scrambling to figure something out so we can have a tailgate.

Anyone have an RV parking pass they are willing to sell? If you do, my company would buy your pass for the game and then you would have all the free food and beverages you can digest!!

We plan on catering in food so we would like a lot close to a grass area, if possible, to set up a couple tents for tables and chairs, but beggars cant be choosers. So any RV pass will be considered.

If you have an RV parking pass for the IOWA game and would be remotely interested in this proposal, please contact me at [email protected] to discuss specifics.

Thanks and GO CYCLONES!!!

What the hell is growing in my yard?

I’ve got some kind of weird bug or fungus or some alien substance growing in my yard. Looks like a small 6in in diameter spiderweb of some kind but is almost more fine than that. Looks like a tiny cloud burrowed in my grass. I don’t see any spiders in them. First found them all over my front yard when I got back from a vacation. Mowed over them and thought that was that. They are starting to come back in random places around my yard now and creeping towards the back. Any idea what this could be? Do I need to spray for them?TIA

Minnesota & Fleck

The Daniel Jackson thread had a Minnesota mention (the other Daniel Jackson) and it piqued my curiosity so I checked out Athlon's Minn prediction which is 5th in the B1G West this season.

What's the deal with row boat?... Was he hired at the same time as Campbell? IIRC he was the sexiest of sexy names getting hired when he did. Not that Athlon is gospel but I'd presume he would be doing better than that by now if he was the star everyone thought he was.

Any Clones (or Hawks) in the Cities with any insight?

John Daly denied cart

Daly asked to use a cart at the open starting in a few weeks and was denied. He has arthritis in his knee apparently.

I thought part of professional golf was also walking the 7-8 miles a day on the course since it's an athletic endeavor.

Kinda seems like a basketball players getting a doctors note so he doesn't have to get back on defense.

I honestly thought John Daly died of alcoholism and general body abuse a decade ago...

"We're not a defense you can minor in."

Loved this quote by CMC.

“We’re not a defense you can minor in,” Campbell said. “We’re a defense you have to major in with some of the adjustments and what we’ve got to do. It’s been flattering that we’ve got a lot of questions in it. But we’re unique.”

Friday 5: Music docs/biopics

Shout-out to @MeanDean for the idea. It has a loose topical link to this year’s Academy Awards.

Rank your top 5 favorite music-based movies. List can include biopics, documentaries, musicals, films about fictional artists/bands and mocumentaries (if you wish, you can rank fictional flicks separately).

Numerous music-related films I still need to see. Many good ones that won't make my final cut.

I'm working on my list, will post it in a while.

Go!

On That Note: Coming This Week

This week, @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and I continue the "On That Note" series, “To the 9’s” featuring top albums by decade, beginning in 1959 and continuing through 1999.

Segment 4 focus: Albums released in 1999. Advance notice for time to ponder and compile.

IMPORTANT: Please Do Not Post any of your choices in this thread. We'll start the official thread late Tuesday, as is the custom.

Start your research. :)

*** Official "The Open" thread ***

The final major of the year is here. Set at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

I believe the British oddsmakers have Rory as the favorite. I would love to see Rickie Fowler get that major monkey off his back.

You never know what kind of weather you can get when playing The Open and it can play a huge factor if you get caught in the worst of it.

Tee times start at 1:35am Eastern
