Recruiting - ISU is getting more talent

I loosely follow recruiting, but have often wondered if we are really gaining ground on other teams when I see the individual recruit commitments. When CW was interviewing Joel Klatt, he mentioned that the middle of our roster is finally where it needs to be. Being a numbers guy, I went back to 2010 and averaged the last five 247 class recruit average ratings (2020 goes back to the 2016 class, 2019 to 2015, etc) to try and see where the 85 man roster talent was rated out of HS. I did this for the 10 teams we play each year and then threw in Clemson and Alabama for S&Gs.

Some observations:
-Next year (2020) ISU may pass Tech for 7th in overall team talent in the B12. That is the first time ISU, KSU, and KU weren't all automatically bringing up the rear.
-ISU has trended solidly up over the last half decade, 2020 will be Campbell's 5th class.
-The majority of the 10 teams we play every each year have been in the 0.84 to 0.86 range, and next year will be the first year that ISU has bootstrapped their way into the 0.84 and above level.
-TCU isn't going anywhere.
-**** Baylor
-KSU's past success with their mediocre talent is amazing.
-The 5 year period of recruiting leading into 2017 for the B12 wasn't great.
-Clemson has hit the NOS in recent years and won two NCs vs. far more talented Alabama teams.
-...Alabama, Roll Tide.
-I was surprised that in theory Texas has been a step ahead of OU in the talent department for the last 6 years.

I think it's too optomisitic to think ISU will ever get to the .88 average recruit level, which appears to be a pretty big delta between elite and solid power 5. If Campbell stays and we can get to a solid 0.85 to 0.86 score, I think we can win alot of games. ISU 2019 average = .8533 and 2020 average =.8528
I think Campbell has also stemmed some of the attrition that CPR struggled with, which is huge too.

*Without way more analysis, I don't think we can overlook that fact that the average recruit scores may be going up over the last decade. However, I think this still shows that ISU is gaining ground.

RECRUITING: Hearing ISU will host four 2021 prospects from Detroit this week

Quick note to interrupt my vacation - I'm hearing Iowa State will host four 2021 prospects from Cass Tech in Detroit on Tuesday for unofficial visits.

The four players are offensive tackle Terrence Enos, defensive tackle Doran Ray Jr., cornerback Kalen King and his brother Kobe, who is a linebacker prospect.

All four hold offers from Iowa State already.

Kalen King is currently considered the highest rated of the group standing at No. 316 in the 247Composite rankings. He has 20-plus other offers including Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska and several other Power 5 schools.

Enos is No. 402 in the current rankings with other offers from Kentucky, LSU, Missouri, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and quite a few others.

Kobe King is No. 555 in the 247Composite and has a lot of the same offers as his brother, including both Michigan schools.

Ray is currently the most under the radar player of the group but at 6-foot-3, 260-pounds he's definitely got impressive measurables.

Back to vacation.

Ranking Every FB Game of 2019 Season

https://oklahoman.com/article/5637271/big-12-football-ranking-every-game-of-the-2019-season

Interesting read from The Oklahoman..

1. Texas at Iowa State, Nov. 16: This game could well be for a berth in the Big 12 Championship Game.

7. Iowa State at Oklahoma, Nov. 9: The last time the Cyclones came to Norman, they delivered an all-time upset and pronounced the arrival of the Matt Campbell era.

How much actual work do you do?

A couple of weeks ago, I read an article on "imposter syndrome". It’s the feeling that you are undeserving of all your accomplishments; that somehow all your success is a fluke and soon you’ll be exposed.

Every win that I've had in my career, every pat on the back I've gotten, I know it is because of my skill and intellect. I don’t think I’m lazy. I don’t neglect my work, take unnecessarily long breaks, or give less than my best effort at my job. But when I sit there for hours on end trying to figure out what the hell I’m supposed to be doing when I’m just waiting for a client to call back or my boss to get back to me, the thoughts creep into my mind.

Do others have this much time? What are they doing right now? Should I be doing something else? Why don’t I have work to do? Is my boss not giving me more work because she doesn’t trust me?

I can recall nights where I've stayed late at the office, and I'm not against it at all if necessary.

I guess my question is: how much work do people actually get done in a given day or week? Are you also spending many of your days finding yourself with hours to kill, or are most of your days filled with actual work to be doing?

Let’s try to beat imposter syndrome by revealing just how much our jobs actually demand on a day to day basis. Or you can all reveal that yes, I am a lazy sack of **** and a time thief because I don’t have those full days.

Need votes for daughter's online poll

Hello, Cyclone family. My daughter is part of an online poll for a local photography company. I'm not ashamed to ask my internet friends to help her out.

If you click on the link below, she's #11. Right now she's in the top 10 and I'm hoping that with your help she can continue to climb the rankings. You can vote once per day per IP address.

I know how Cyclones can dominate an online poll like no other and I'm hoping this will be the same. If it helps, she likes the Cyclones better than my wife's KSU purple kitties. Thanks!!!

T-Mobile gets okay to take over sprint

https://www.koin.com/news/politics/justice-department-oks-t-mobiles-26-5b-sprint-deal/

Friday’s approval by the Justice Department and five state attorneys general comes after Sprint and T-Mobile agreed to conditions that would set up satellite-TV provider Dish as a fourth wireless company, so the number of major U.S. providers remains at four.

Dish is buying Sprint’s prepaid cellphone brands including Boost and Virgin Mobile — some 9 million customers — and some spectrum, or airwaves for wireless service, from the two companies for $5 billion. It will also be able to rent T-Mobile’s network for seven years while it builds its own. The Justice Department’s antitrust chief, Makan Delrahim, said the settlement sets up Dish “as a disruptive force in wireless.”

To win a murder conviction, police and prosecutors made up evidence and secretly paid a witness

"Not only did detectives write police reports containing invented statements from witnesses, the report found, but the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office also made secret payments to the single eyewitness, who was pressured into making the false identification that would ultimately seal Johnson’s fate, according to the report."

We shouldn't even be surprised anymore, but my God is this disgusting!!

Friday OT #2 - Pod People

Lately I've been listening to a few podcasts, and was wondering if anyone has any favorites? Give links!

I was listening to Disgraceland, which was interesting but cheesy, and got to the end of it. I wanted something funny about music, so I started hunting around. I think Adam Scott is hilarious, and found that he and Scott Auckerman had a podcast that started as U Talkin U2 To Me where they went album-by-album through U2's discography, and then changed it to R U Talkin REM RE: Me going through REM's discography when they got to the end with U2. U2 isn't really my favorite band, but the two of them are so funny together that just them hanging out chatting is interesting enough to keep me listening. I'm not to the REM stuff yet (who I DO love), but bet those will be great.

Toughest place to play in Big 12

https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/big-12/texas-christian-university/article232886397.html

From a survey of Big 12 FB players. Plus some quotes from Josh Knipfel.

Malcolm Roach, Texas: “Either TCU or Iowa State. Always going on the road playing Iowa State that’s a tough game. Just because the way the atmosphere is around there, so going out there and playing them is gonna be tough.”

Brandon Jones, Texas: “I would say Iowa State just because their grass is super long. It’s a lot different. They do it for a reason, whatever reason, I think to mess people up. Just playing on that field is a little different.”

Josh's favorite football memory: “I was in sixth grade, it was youth football ... my coach at the time, he put me at tight end on the last game of sixth grade year and I basically just ran straight down the field and a teammate threw it up to me and I caught it and I scored a touchdown. Only time I’ve ever scored a touchdown. Only time I ever caught the ball. And so that’s kinda been my moment.”
