Which player are you most excited to watch this year?

Who is the player(s) you are all most excited to see this upcoming season? Whether it be an established player like Bailey who will be setting career records, or a youngster who has barely played thus far, let's talk about the players who everyone is pumped to see this year. I think my answer would be Tarique Milton. It will be interesting to see if he can fill some of the big-play ability we lost with Butler leaving for the NFL.

I know @baller1 is especially excited to see what Assalley is bringing to the table this year.

Cyclone Mobile Pass?

Is this a good deal or not? I bought a Mini-pack a couple years ago and really liked it. The problem was that it was sometimes hard to find someone to go to the game with. Usually have a few friends with tailgates that I can crash, so even going alone would be okay with me.

Anyone do this last year? How did it work out?

Brody Brecht- Ankeny HS

This kid is a stud and has an offer from ISU. The thing that we have against us is he wants to play baseball in college also. He wants to be a 2 sport guy. He is only a sophomore this year and just threw a no hitter in the regional final to go to state for Ankeny. With the success ISU has had at WR I would hope that would help.

Casey's Card Reader not Working

I live on North side or CR and occasionally stop by Casey's in Robbins. Their card readers have not worked at any of their pumps for at least 90 days. That's crazy. It's not a huge store but they have 6 pumps and very little competition within 4-5 miles. I hate having to prepay and probably will do everything I can not to stop there again. Their employees say "we are on the list" for upgrades.

This has got to be costing them significant business. Just curious if this is happening at any of their other locations.

Nebraska Eyes 155-Member Football Team

An interesting 3-story series in the Omaha World Herald analyzes how Scott Frost is working towards the days of yesteryear when the Nebraska football squad numbered close to 200...back when he played. Title 9 makes this tough as obviously, any increase in football numbers requires equal increases to women's numbers. To do so, Nebraska is adding significant walk-on numbers to the Women's Cross Country and Swimming teams. For example, the cross country team is going from a normal 15-17 member squad to 30. The swimming team is going from a normal 25-30 member squad to 50. This allows for 35 additional football walk-ons.

Per the stories, the women walk-ons will likely never see varsity competition, but they do enjoy the normal perks of being a team member...equipment, coaching, training table for meals, etc. And, adding walk-ons is much cheaper than adding another sport with paid coaches, etc.

Interesting series...you wonder how other schools treat this.

Lane deviation warning system

While driving our 2019 Outback, all of the sudden the steering wheel would jerk like you were on a slushy road. Took it to the dealer and the told us to shut off the lane deviation. They said all new Subaru cars have experienced this along with Chevy Silverados. There is a glitch in the computer and they are aware of the problem. Usually happens at high speeds. Warning light read Keep Both Hands on Steering Wheel.

If you were JP....

... to what lengths would you go to keep CMC here?

IMO, you basically would have to do whatever it takes to keep him.... including decreasing other head coaches' salaries (not MBB or WBB), or even dropping a sport or two.

I know JP would never probably go to that extent, but if we were to lose him, and the football program drops back to mediocrity or worse.... then you might be looking at having to go to those lengths anyway.

Thoughts? What would you be willing to do?

Posts of the Month: July 2019

August is still a few days away, but schedule is uncertain early in the week and I don't want to overlook it.

As usual, if you recall something I omitted, feel free to add it.

Some entries are edited for clarity or brevity.

We begin with what has become self-perpetuating. :)

From the thread “Posts of the Month: June 2019”
@Sigmapolis: First again! Pretty much Queen ***** of the Universe at this point.

(leftover from June)
From “Sqwakeyes new alternate uniforms…”
@keepngoal: I like ‘em.
@BCClone: You been smoking dope or into the Fireball hard?

From “Matt Thomas signs with Toronto.”
@HFCS: Now we import and export players to Canada. We're the Vandelay Industries of college basketball.

@JP4CY: Let’s shoot some fireworks and drink beer to celebrate!
@SpokaneCY: So, just a normal Tuesday?
@Rabbuk: Today is Thursday.
@SpokaneCY: Explains why I'm out of beer. And firecrackers.

From “Friday OT: The Water Cooler”
@Angie: What are things people do in the workplace that drive you insane?
@Doc: Ask me work questions when I’m busy posting on CF.

From: “Heads up: OTN, Albums of 1979”
@dirtyninety: I will not post my choice...but it might have Olivia Newton-John on the cover.
@MeanDean: Damn. You took my choice. No, not really. Not even close.

From “Tournament team potential”
(Discussion of ISU’s expectations for 2019-20)
@CascadeClone: Chemistry, man. It's not just a horrible experience in Gilman.

From “R.I.P. Rip Torn”
@coolerifyoudid: I opened the thread, assuming it was about Rip Taylor. I thought, damn, I thought he died decades ago ... realized I was thinking of the wrong Rip. I Googled “Rip Taylor” and was amazed — he’s still alive. Then I realized, I probably shouldn't write eulogies.

From “Veterinarian suicide rates”
@BillyClone: My daughter attends dental school. During the admission process, the school told prospective students about higher-than-average suicide rates in the dental profession … I asked if it that’s because dentists are always down in the mouth. I was not allowed to speak the rest of the afternoon.

@CNECloneFan: Physicians do not have to deal with "putting people down" on a regular basis.
@SpokaneCY: My doctor told me I was fat.

From “How much actual work do you do?”
@NATEizKING: Depends how much I drank the night before.

From “KU selling alcohol at games”
@BillBrasky4Cy: I'm sure there are dozens of KU fans who are really excited about this.

From “Properly eating corn on the cob”
(numerous good ones from that thread, posting only one exchange)
@discydisc: Making fun of eating disorders is NOT ok...unless it's referencing Nate Stanley.
@SpokaneCY: I know no "Nate" Stanley. Only "Fat" Stanley...

Basketball Hoop

I just spent a few grand getting a new patio poured in the backyard, now it's time to put in a hoop. My wife plans to use the patio for "entertaining" and the like, so wants me to get a portable system rather than an in ground.

Anyone have a decent goal on wheels that is solid and doesn't cost a mint?

Sprayed by skunk

So last night our dog had the unfortunate event of being sprayed by a skunk. Somehow, my girlfriend didnt realize it before the dog was in the house, so the house still has the slight smell of skunk cause we have cleaned and had the windows open all day. Anybody have the same unfortunate event happen? How did you remove the scent from the home and the dog?

Hot Take: Our Football team won't actually have to do all that much to replace Montgomery and Butler

As everyone knows, David Montgomery and Hakeem the Dream were two of the best players we've ever had at their positions (personally I think Hakeem the Dream is the GOAT of Iowa State WRs). With them going on to the pros a year early, much has been made about finding a way to replace the output that we'll be losing with them.

I don't think that this is going to be as much of an issue for the following reasons:

  • Our RB corps is probably the most stacked it's ever been. Idk who's the best or worst RB right now but even our worst RB is probably a 7/10 while our best RB is probably a 9/10 or 10/10 even.

  • Similarly, with our WRs, yes, we probably don't have anyone capable of abusing defenders so beautifully like Hakeem the Dream regularly did, but also, the receivers we have, especially Milton and (probably) Pettway do not seem to be bad, and we also will have a QB in Brock Purdy who usually knows what he's doing when it comes to throwing balls around.

Thoughts?
