North Linn-Jake Hilmer

North Linn Senior has had quite the HS career at 2A North Linn. (Walker, Troy Mills and Coggon make up the Northern part of Linn County.
This guy has the national record for most hits in a baseball career. He owns the state assist record in basketball for the state of Iowa. His North Linn team won the class 2A state basketball title in the Spring and he just pitched a one hit game to get them to the class 2A state baseball final on Saturday. As amazing of an athlete as he is, if you ever heard an interview with him, he's even a better person.

Real Estate Agents

What exactly do they do? We had discussed selling our house but I can’t see any reason to use a realtor to help the process along. I understand they facilitate different things and market your home, but the general public can do those things just the same anymore online. I watched some neighbors sell their house with a realtor and it sold before it went on the market and they paid outrageous fees to a realtor that didn’t even show the home or have pictures taken. Granted, that rarely happens but it ended up being close to a $14,000 commission for a little paperwork and two phone calls. Conversely, why do you need a buyer’s agent if you know what you want, can look at any house for sale in that area online, and can negotiate for yourself?

Have others on here bought/sold their home on their own and if so, what advice would you give?

Donovan Jackson - playing in Europe

So, I missed all this. Apparently Donovan Jackson played with a club called Pardubice in the Czech Republic (I'm still using that name). He averaged 14 points a game and has just signed with a Greek club (which is probably an upgrade in pay). There isn't a lot of English language news on either of the teams so I haven't even confirmed what the name of the team is. I saw this on Monte's Twitter feed.

New Cell Phone and Driving Law in Minnesota - hands free

Heads up to you peeps who come to Minnesota for Twins games, Mall of America or lakes vacation. New hands free law took effect yesterday and it's being enforced vigorously. You might get away with a warning with your out of state plates, maybe not.

You can Bluetooth and such but any GPS use needs to be voice activated/directed. This is much stricter than your Iowa law that mostly just prohibits texting. Basically if you have a phone in your hand you are getting stopped.

More detailed explanation is offered in this linked story:
https://blogs.mprnews.org/capitol-view/2019/04/hands-free-cell-phone-is-now-law-so-how-does-it-work/

BTW, I am militantly supportive of this.

Trading a B4 pass for a G7 pass (game by game)

I upgraded to B4 this year, but I have a few friends that also jumped in to get G7 passes. I'm looking to trade away my B4 pass on a game by game basis to get into G7 . Preferably not to anyone looking to take the upgrade and sell the pass.

I'm not looking for the entire season in case we run into the cluster that was last year when G7 kept getting closed, or in case my out of town friends can't make it back.

WBB: Joens and Scott at Team USA tryouts

I don't see a thread for this, but Joens and Scott both were at Team USA tryouts recently (Joens for U19, Scott for Pan-Am Games).

The U19 team was selected yesterday, and Joens was named an alternate. She was an alternate last year, but joined the team when someone had to drop out. She ended up being team captain and was #2 in scoring.

The Pan-Am Games roster was released today, and Scott was not selected. They don't specifically name alternates, but I'm guessing we would have heard had she been selected an alternate.

DFW Cyclones Baylor Tailgate Info

20171118-113450-resized_2_orig.jpg

The DFW Cyclones are planning an "Austin-style" tailgate event prior to the Baylor game. We are offering a full array of options for this game as we expect this to be the largest Cyclone event in Texas this season. Based on the attendance of 400+ Cyclones from the 2017 tailgate in Waco we are planning on bigger things this time around. We will offer tailgate and game ticket-only packages as well as tickets-plus-tailgate.

The DFW Cyclones are partnering with the Texas Firewalkers BBQ Team to provide entry into our All-You-Can-Eat BBQ including soda and adult beverages. Presale price for this event is $25. Price will rise to $30 prior to the event.

You don't need to bring a grill or a cooler or go shopping for food and parking is included (parking is first come/first serve until our 5+ acre space is filled). We can handle the whole day for you.

You can learn more about the Firewalkers by visiting their website - www.texasfirewalkers.org - and please take time to view the video where they were featured on Mike Rowe's Facebook Video series "Returning the Favor". They have a great story to tell.

All profits from this event will support the Click Here for Tailgate and/or Game Tickets

Ames & surrounding area couples date night activities help

We have a group of anywhere from 5-7 couples all the same age (late 30's) that will occasionally get sitters for the kids and go out and try and do something fun. Whether that's renting Kayaks at Seven Oaks, then dinner or dinner then going to Time Out arcade bar for awhile. Definitely not bar hopping like we used to in our 20's. But looking for suggestions on fun things to do as a group for an upcoming group date night? This could be in Ames, Story City, Nevada, Boone, Etc. GIA

Please, only serious suggestions. No 'Key party' comments :)

Day 2 draws of Cadet Worlds - Facundo gets Bronze

https://www.flowrestling.org/articles/6547490-day-ii-draws-at-cadet-worlds

71KG - Alex Facundo, MI
Opening Bout - Shokhrukh Juraev (UZB)

Juraev was the Asian Runner-Up to Vijay (IND), who is also in Facundo's quad.

Also in Facundo's Half - If there's one wrestler on our team that had to go through the meat grinder, we'd probably pick Facundo. He's in the bottom half and it's loaded. But make no mistake; as the only returning medalist in the bracket, Facundo is the big dog here.

He opens with Juraev and then likely gets Russia's Soslan Tigiev after Tigiev beats Italy. Vijay would be next in the quarters.

In the final quad, which feeds into Facundo's semifinal, the top contenders all did well at Euro's - Runner-Up Davit Kutchuashvili (GEO), Bronze medalist Menua Yeribekyan (ARM) and 5th placer Lilian Balan (MDA).

Top Half - The top half is pretty thin and features just a couple contenders. One is Euro 5th Iglesias (ESP). Another is Kuanyshbay (UZB) who was Bronze at Asians. Iran's Valipour is also up top.

K-State game (on November 30, 2019)

Hey there --

I am 99% sure I am going to drive down to Manhattan for the K-State game in November. I have been to Manhattan but never a game there and am going to be back in Iowa for the holiday, so I figured why not borrow one of my dad's numerous cars and head down.

Questions...

(1.) Best way to acquire tickets?
(2.) Fun things to do in Manhattan before/after?

Thank you very much!

Coach Dresser's August Newsletter

We just finished our second training cycle of the Summer and it is a little quiet in Ames for a change.

So I want to catch you up on some things.

First, David Carr will be heading to Estonia this month as part of the Men's Freestyle Junior World Team.

David qualified to represent the U.S. after winning competitions this past spring and early summer. He'll be accompanied on the trip by Nate Carr, associate director of the Cyclone Regional Training Center, and by Derek St. John.

Kyven Gadson, meanwhile, will compete in the Alexander Medved International tournament in Belarus early this month.

We also want to bring you up-to-date on the success of our new 2019 fundraising campaign: The C-RTC Tree.

Thanks to all of our supporters and fans -- like you -- we have increased the number of donors to 315 from 36 when our campaign first began. Every day we add more donors. So far, we have raised a total of nearly $455,000 toward our goal.

The text-a-thon that our coaches and athletes held in Ames last month was a HUGE part of this fundraising success. It brought in $150,000 -- and we had a lot of fun doing it.

We want to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far. The money we've raised will go toward supporting the efforts of our entire program.

Please NOTE that it is not too late to get on our C-RTC Tree. You can check out a video explaining that here.

And you can donate by going here.

Also coming up this month:

August 16th @ 5 p.m. -- Social at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds. The Humboldt organizing committee does these parties right so please join us for what is sure to be a great evening. You can go here to read more about it and to register.

August 21 @ 6 p.m. -- C-RTC Olympic House Happy Hour. We want to THANK all of the local contractors and others who have helped make our new C-RTC Olympic house in Ames a reality. Come out to Cellar 626 (behind Cyclone Liquors in Ames) for a beverage and some snacks on us.

August 26 @ Noon -- 2nd Annual C-RTC Golf Event. At Glen Oaks Country Club in W. Des Moines. This is a great day of golf, plus an amazing dinner and fun program. You can sign up for the golf event by going here.

Thanks and we hope to see you this month.
