Cool Moment at Chicago Bears Training Camp

My wife and I made the trip to Bourbonnais, Illinois this weekend for the last Chicago Bears training camp practice open to the public. The place was absolutely packed with fans.

As my wife and I watched practice, a woman I didn't know approached and tapped me on the shoulder. After I turned to her, she said she wanted to thank me.

For what I asked.

"For supporting my baby," she responded.

I was wearing a Bears #32 David Montgomery jersey at the practice. It was David's mother who approached me once she saw the jersey I was wearing.

We talked about how I'm an Iowa State graduate and absolutely loved watching David the last couple years in Ames, and now couldn't wait to watch him play for my favorite NFL team.

I'm still in shock that David's mother would take the time to talk with and thank someone she didn't know all because that person was wearing David's jersey. It was an absolute delight to talk with her.

Chicago Bears game

I have been a Chicago Bears fan since the days of Walter Payton, Jim McMahon, and the Fridge. I now have a son that is old enough to really get into football and I have gotten him to follow the Bears too. Now with a little added incentive to actually go to a game in Chicago with the boy and to watch Montgomery and it doesn’t hurt they are pretty good now too.

Tickets to the game are the easy part- where I need help with is what hotel to pick within the proximity of Soldier Field also to drive self and park or take public transportation. I’d appreciate any feedback on hotels and ways to and from hotel on game day. FYI- we are looking, tentatively, to go to the Lions game on 11/10- kickoff is set for noon.

Sirius B12 radio - Spear and Bailey interview

Caught the last week... Archer and someone were interviewing both and asked about the CyHawk rivalry. Bailey said he had never heard of the rivalry until he played in it. Then he starts laughing and says "I hate those guys. I don't even know why - but I hate those guys"... Not sure why but it made me laugh out loud...

It was REALLY clear they want to beat Iowa more than anyone... Which is cool with me so long as they beat everyone else in conference too...

FS - 1999 Winnebago Adventurer - Ready to Tailgate!

I really hate to do this, but due to retirement it's time to sell our Winnebago. We've used this for tailgating every year for the past several years and it's been the perfect tailgate vehicle! We are selling it with absolutely everything included (pop up tents, extra generator, exterior sound, and much more!). See the following link for lots of pics and information. Contact info is there as well. This will have you ready to tailgate the moment you pick it up!

TIME TO NAME: The next CF/Barntown beer collaboration

So we've done two of these now ...

The "Firmly Entrenched" IPA from last summer.

"Transfer Brew" from last winter.

We are planning our annual kickoff party for Aug. 24 and will again be tapping a new CF themed beer at Barntown. Pete has agreed to make more cans this year to so people don't get left out.

Now the fun part .... need some fun names!

I'll throw the "So Proud" IPA out to start. Go!

Disney World Vacation

Looking at doing a Disney vacation for the family. 3 young kids and my wife and I. For those that have done it what are some good suggestions so it does not cost an arm and a leg? Flight and either rental car or some of the hotel will be covered from rewards points on cc.

Stay on Disney resort?
Stay off resort and rent a car?
How many days are a good amount of days to actually go to the parks? 2? 3? 4?
Get meal plan if stay on resort?
Ways to get discounted tickets?
Necessitys for hotel- pool? free Breakfast? etc.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Automotive Advice

Just looking for some CF advice. Currently driving a 2014 Honda Odyssey. (Please reserve judgement). 113,000 miles. Running great, no problems. At my recent service appointment, my technician told me that at my next service it is recommended that the vehicle will be due for “factory recommended timing belt and water pump replacement”. I’m no car expert, so is this something I should take seriously or is this just a money grab (est. $995.00)?

ISO: Venue space

Looking for a indoor venue to host my daughter's 1st birthday in October. Will have roughly 40-50 guests. Would prefer a space where we can bring our own food/decorations, but would be open to a restaurant if pricing for venue+food was reasonable. Outside of needing tables/chairs and a bathroom, can't think of any other necessities.

We live in Ankeny - would be open to suggestions anywhere in the metro. We've called a lot of the "standard" spots; golf courses, hotel conference rooms, rec centers, etc. Some are okay, and some of them are way more than we want to spend. Hoping CF can provide some outside the box ideas!

Thanks!
