Game rewatch 2018 - TCU

This game was just entertaining as hell. I think the Pre-Brock era of 2018 is being lost to memory but this game was great fun.

Some highlights:

-The General nastiness of the defense. 2019 is going to be crazy on that side of the ball

-Just watch Mike Rose during the first two or three defensive series.

-Datrone targets Turpin and knocks him out of the game

-Nwangwu nice return

- tCU TE attempts to hurdle Payne and Payne stands him up, causes a fumble, and the TE gets crushed by two other ISU defenders and we recover the fumble (announcer comments “(The TCU TE should stop watching so much TV”

-Noland scrambles for first down on 3rd & 25

-Montgomery’s series of 5 or 6 straight carries after the long first down pickup

-Julian Good Jones pukes live on TV

-Braxton Lewis plays well 2nd half

-Eisworth blows up TCU QB

-It’s amazing to see how much experience we have in depth for 2019.

Ejim vs. Team USA

The USA World Cup team takes on Canada in an exhibition in Australia on Monday, August 26. That game will be aired on NBA TV at 5:30 am ET / 4:30 am CT. That will also be streamed live on FuboTV (which apparently you can try for free - don't have the details). My guess is that NBA TV will re-air the game so you may want to check your local listings.

The USA and Canada both saw many of their NBA stars pull out of the World Cup team so the star power is not what it could be. The USA has had relatively close games with Spain and Australia so far so it might be a struggle to win the World Cup with this roster. WC play starts SEPT 1 in China so the USA-Canada game is the final tune-up.

Edge has been a big part of Team Canada in the last few years so I'd expect he'll get a lot of run vs. the USA. My understanding is that Shayok and Naz were also in the training camp but don't seem to be on the roster.

I'm hoping that Melvin goes full TCU mode and scores 48 points in a 1-point loss to the USA :)

Just curious what others are thinking. I like Kene, as I feel like he was really never completely recovered last year.

Either Croney or Nwangwu would likely be the odds on favorites to receive the first handoff from Brock Purdy against the Panthers. Croney enters his final season in Ames after compiling 56 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries last season while Nwangwu, who is widely regarded as the fastest player in the program, added 157 yards on 39 carries of his own in his first year back since missing the full 2017 season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon following his true freshman season.

This is what concerns about Sheldon.

OT: This...is awful

Did anyone see the footage of the elevator accident in NYC? This high rise with very high rent has had this elevator that has had problems for a while but the building never did anything about fixing it. Well a 30 year old man was literally crushed to death by the elevator when the doors opened and he tried getting out but the elevator fell. It's just awful to see. I won't post it but there is a NY Post article that shows the footage. I have a feeling his family will sue the pants off that building and make bank.

Monday-ish OT: Yes But No

So sorry, this was supposed to be on Monday, but we were moving. I'm just now at a computer. Thanks again to @madguy30 for these ideas!

What are some shows or movies that you thought were good when they first came out, and realized they weren't?

Examples:

Godfather Part 3 - At first, I thought it was another great FFC movie in the trilogy. After I thought about it, though, I realized that there was nowhere as much nuance in it as the others. It was such a letdown to me after the first two were so great.

Star Wars - I liked these movies when I was in grade school. But the story is super predictable (local boy saves the world, someone falls down a deep hole, etc.). And the dialogue is pretty terrible. I know that it is an unpopular opinion, but I think most people love them solely for nostalgia.

Almost every M. Night Shyamalan movie after The Sixth Sense - we get it, you like twists. But the twist in Signs was dumb, and The Village twist was utterly predictable.

Fantasy Football - Auction Draft Strategy

Getting closer to FF drafts, am curious to learn any other auction drafters' strategies. My main league went to an auction for the first time last year. We had a draft budget of $260. This year we're switching it to the more standard $200. Here's the approach I'm thinking about right now:

QB - 8
RB1 - 65
RB2 - 15
WR1 - 50
WR2 - 10
TE - 35
FL - 5
D - 1
K - 1
B - 2
B - 2
B - 1
B - 1
B - 1
B - 1
B - 1
B - 1

Obviously lots could change, but I definitely want an elite RB1, WR1, and TE. There's lots of low-dollar value at WR this year.
