Saw some discussion of the UNI alma mater song causing controversy. What are our thoughts on our alma mater song, "The Bells of Iowa State", being played at football games?

Personally, I love it. It's a beautiful song and holds a lot of sentimental value, whether it's about going to games as a kid or going to ISU in general.

Week 1 of the 2019 college football season begins Thursday night, and it's safe to say that Hawaii's Week 0 upset of Arizona isn't the only surprise in store for us this season. After all, this time a year ago, who saw Kyler Murray winning the Heisman or Wisconsin and Auburn both falling out of the Top 25 by Week 10? After locking in our Crystal Ball picks for the season—including Playoff, national champion and breakout candidates, we asked our writers and editors to think broader and give their boldest prediction for what's ahead.

Iowa State will win the Big 12. The Cyclones make the leap from back-to-back eight-win seasons to serious conference contenders, and it culminates in a Big 12 championship. Led by its defense and QB Brock Purdy, who started as a true freshman in 2018, Iowa State should be favored in most games this year. Its toughest tests are against Iowa (non-conference), at Oklahoma and at home vs. Texas, and if it takes care of business elsewhere, splitting against the Sooners and Longhorns should be enough to get it to Arlington. Winning in Norman may be a bridge too far, but a Texas team replacing a lot on defense could be ripe for a late-season defeat in Ames. Get to the Big 12 title game, and I think the Cyclones’ D makes the difference in the rematch with Oklahoma, with Purdy doing just enough against a still-leaky Sooners defense (despite Alex Grinch’s best efforts).

ISU defeating Iowa this year is looking increasingly probable if various reports and predictions are to be believed. The downside if there is one is that these reports indicate that this might not be one of Iowa's better teams, and it certainly not be if they finish near the bottom of their division like some prognosticators suggest.

I was wondering whether then the cyclone faithful might be persuaded to root for the Hawks outside of the game in Trice stadium? Or will the posture continue to be eff them?

Attached are a couple pics of my exterior hose/spigot. Backstory: Ever since I moved in a couple years ago, when I turn on the hose(actually both exterior hoses), there is a very small leak that has come from the top "cap" of the spigot. Nothing crazy, but noticeable and I wanted to fix it. Last week I twisted it off and found the rubber washer was torn. I also noticed the white plastic piece that was screwed into the cap was slightly broken/mishaped, not sure if that was already there or if I did that when screwing it off.

This is the item I think I currently have: B&K 888-183 Frost Free Anti-Siphon Wall Faucet

I haven't been able to find these exact replacement parts at any hardware stores near me. My question is: Do I need to replace with this exact item, or can anyone recommend a similar piece that I can buy at Home Depot, Ace, Menards, etc? I guess, what is the purpose of this item with the multiple pieces/filter, instead of just using a plain old cap that I can screw on? I'm sure these are dumb questions but I don't know anything about plumbing. Thanks!

Hey guys, I’ve just been thinking a lot lately about some of the great improvements that have been made and things that could be done to make the gameday experience even more EXPLOSIVE in Ames.

So follow me here, could we build a
Water Tower near MidAmerican Field at JTS? And then... now stay with me...could an ISU logo be painted on it?

Should we wait a few years to paint the logo after the water tower is built to really build the excitement? What logo should be put on the water tower?

Just think it would be so cool to know that the delicious Ames water coming out of that water tower would be kissed by an ISU logo.

I can hardly believe I'm going to a thread on a sports board asking mostly guys about this, but I swallow my female pride and do it anyway.

The freezer portion of our Samsung refrigerator has died and it's just a short matter of time before the fridge part goes, too. The repairman said that for the most part, Samsungs aren't good -- the company tried to do things that didn't work, and made it virtually impossible to find help online or replacement parts. I guess we were luckier than most with ours lasting 7 or so years. I couldn't even find a manual for our model online. Sigh. Repair guy also said Whirlpool is best brand, Electrolux is also good, as is SubZero but I don't have $10,000 for that!

However, with the impending demise of this major kitchen appliance and my limited luck finding much good in online reviews, I'd like to know if anyone's recently purchased a refrigerator with French doors, ice and water in the door and bottom freezer. I don't really want a full drawer in the fridge part (have to open both doors that way), but I'm open to various arrangements of shelves, etc.

What did you buy? How long ago? What do you like, not like, absolutely hate? And if know your SO's thoughts, feel free to include them, too.

I'm in Ames and not really looking forward to losing more food when my fridge decides it's done. Had enough of that with the freezer. TIA.
