Biggest college football player

I was watching the Gopher game last night and noticed that one of their OL was just a massive human being.

So I looked him up, and he's 6'9" and 400 lbs. So I kind of kept an eye on him for a while, and he was constantly getting beat to the outside on passing plays, at least while I was watching. He was obviously better in the run blocking, but IMO he was terrible at pass pro.

He's only a sophomore and is still learning the game since he's from Australia, and they seem very confident he'll be an NFL player someday. Here's a story on him....

Awesome Assessment of ISU Talent

This is just some great work by Alex Halsted at 247.

First graph is trend of ISU talent. This is NOT recruiting ratings, but the cumulative rating of the 85 man squad. Just look at how CMC has improved the team.

This second one is even cooler. This is broken down by position. Clear improvement in all units (except Special Teams) across the board. Look at how DL is a strength now, and clearly time for the OL to step up.

The Actual Mascot for the Hoks Isn't a Bird

No, it's something else...

This popular nickname for the University of Iowa sports teams is said to have come from the scout, Hawkeye, in James Fenimore Cooper's The Last of the Mohicans published in 1826.

So to be accurate, the Hoks should have some dude in a loincloth and a bow and arrow running around the stadium, scalping the opponents. Not sure how politically correct that would be today.

New Podcast Download Option Not Working

With the new podcast setup, I'm now unable to download any podcasts straight from the site. A while back, I was able to download any podcast by clicking on the down arrow on the website for each podcast. This hasn't worked for me in a while and just links me to a different part of the site whenever I click on it. However, I've been able to still get things downloaded by clicking on the three up and down dots that used to be available and then hitting download. Now, both the arrow down doesn't work and there is no longer the 3 dots option, so I've been unable to download the last couple podcasts at all. Am I missing something?

This brings me to my second thing I've been wanting to mention, which is as an android user, I've preferred to just download the podcasts to my phone in order to save data. However, my main preference and how I listen to all my other podcasts is through Google Play. The crappy part is that you guys have never been available through there. Is there a reason for this? I would love to see you available on there.

Question for those few who dislike the Orr Cyclone

EDIT: This concerns only the nickname logo. The I-STATE logo stays as the primary school logo!

Regarding the Orr Cyclone, some still cannot let go of ANY association with bad football of the 1980s.

Originally designed by Roger Gade, who worked for ISU for two decades, it first appeared with Criner's teams and was used in various forms as the only school logo with a Cyclone from 1983 to 1995, also during Orr's reign over Hilton Magic and multiple national championships in other sports.

With the current I-STATE logo, Pollard's athletic department redesigned a logo from the 1970s basketball teams. That period was also ISU's worst basketball era ever.

When you look at the current I-STATE logo, do you think of the putrid 1975-76 team that finished 3 - 24? Or maybe you think of Maury John's death?

Don't forget the current I-STATE design first appeared with the, uhhh, less than ideal results of Chizik and McDermott. Is it tarnished by such association?

With the proposed Orr Cyclone logo, the athletic department COULD redesign a logo from the 1980s football teams. That period was a bad era of football, but not the worst ever.

Thus:

1970s I-STATE logo used with BAD basketball, but GOOD football
1980s Cyclone logo used with BAD football, but GOOD basketball

What is the difference????

Pollard's comments in the past (esp. w/ new Cyclone logo) illustrate he doesn't attach any stigmata to logos and poor athletic results, but rather it's some fans that do so. The AD has also listened to fan feedback w/ I-STATE logo rollout in 2007 and Jack Trice throwbacks among other ideas.

Why not again?

The Orr Cyclone could become the Campbell Cyclone. Timeless design transcends, as seen below:

Should Iowa State add Nebraska to OOC?

ISU and NE both currently target a common foe leading to two separate rivalries both bitter and both involving Iowa. Both these rivalrieshave captured regional attention and are growing further in importance. There is no question that this exposure has recruiting implications as well.

However, imo the schedule benefits Iowa more so than isu allowing the Hawkeyes extra oomph in swaying recruits in iowa-nebraska neighborhood and in the general Midwest as well. It would be smart for isu to play both Iowa and ne (alternating years) to equalize this exposure and interest to recruits. Granted this isn't done with a snap of the fingers but a discussion on the merits of asking for a series with nebraska is worthwhile imo.

So should isu try to persuade ne for a ooc series? Would it be preferable to having to play Iowa every year?
