FS: ISU vs. Iowa Jr. Cyclone Club Pass

One of my kids is not going to the game, so if there is anyone out there looking for a kid/hillside ticket, let me know and maybe we can work a way out to lend it for the game then get it back as soon as we get in the stadium. Not looking to make a ton of money, but figure it's a potential additional cyclone fan in the stadium or future cyclone fan to make a memory. PM if interested!

Hurricane Dorian - Battle 4 Atlantis

With this last 8am update from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Dorian has been upgraded to Category 5 with 160+ MPH winds.

The center eye is expected to pass over Grand Bahama which is about 100 miles north of New Providence Island/Paradise Island where Nassau and the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament is.

Those southern islands are currently forecasted to have over 24 hours of tropical storm winds (39-73MPH but likely on the lower end) with gusts higher as the storm stalls. The resort is on the worst side for storm surge as well, which is expected to be 15 feet in Grand Bahama but I haven't found anything about New Providence or Paradise.

Obviously a sports tournament isn't a priority in all this but thought people might want to know the impact. I would say the current likelihood of the B4A being canceled is slim but if you were planning on doing anything in the north islands during your stay, those would probably be canceled.

Lonely Jr. Clone Club member looking for a ticket for her friend for IA gamr

We are Jr. Clone Club members with a parent pass and are just looking for a ticket or pass so our daughter can bring a friend. We will plan on sitting on the hill so it doesn’t matter where the ticket is. Don’t necessarily want to pay an arm and leg for a ticket, so if you’d be willing to help a life long Cyclone fan bring a friend, let us know. Go State!!!

Olympic Redshirts

I’ve been looking around Flo and the internet to see if there’s been a list of all the wrestlers who have announced their intention to use an Olympic redshirt. Any out there? If not, we can use this thread to keep track since I’m interested to see how these can affect us around conference and national tournament time in terms of conference allotments for weights and team placing since we won’t have anyone using it.

LEGENDARY ENERGY EXECUTIVE,
ENTREPRENEUR T. BOONE PICKENS
DIES AT 91

DALLAS, Texas – T. Boone Pickens, legendary energy executive and one of America’s best-known entrepreneurs, passed away today at the age of 91.

The long-time Dallas resident, who had battled back from a series of strokes and further head injuries sustained in a 2017 fall, died of natural causes surrounded by friends and family on September 11, 2019, according to spokesman Jay Rosser.

Plans for memorial services in Dallas, TX, and Stillwater, OK, are pending. Pickens, who was born in Holdenville, a small town in eastern Oklahoma, spent his adult years in Texas.

He is survived by his five children — Deborah Pickens Stovall, Pam Pickens Grace, Michael Pickens, Tom Pickens and Liz Pickens Cordia— and 11 grandchildren and an increasing number of great-grandchildren.

Pickens was a pioneer in the energy industry, a career-long champion for shareholder rights, a groundbreaking health and fitness advocate, and a generous philanthropist whose charitable donations exceeded $1 billion. In July 2008, he launched a self-funded, $100 million, grass-roots campaign aimed at reducing this country’s crippling dependence on OPEC oil. For more information on Pickens’ life, visit www.boonepickens.com.

“With an outsize personality and aggressive business tactics that landed him on the cover of Time magazine, Mr. Pickens became one of the few businessmen in the 1980s recognizable to wide segments of America. His influence is still widely felt. Mr. Pickens was an early advocate for shareholder rights and insisting that executives be compensated with stock. That line of thinking informed a new generation of shareholder activists, and remains gospel on Wall Street.”

WNBA: Bridget Carleton and general WNBA stuff

Thought I'd start a new thread to follow Carleton and the WNBA. Posted in WBB rather than Pro Forum since it makes more sense to me since the WBB fans are here in this forum. Might reduce the "but I hate women's sports" posts.

Randoms:

Bridget has still not played in a game. :(

Jessica Shepard of the Lynx went down with what looks like maybe a bad knee injury yesterday after playing 25 minutes. :( MRI today.

The Sun fans hardily booed ex-Sun Chiney Ogwumike the entire game the other day. Classy. Supposedly she was ready to walk away from the WNBA this season and pursue her ESPN career. Who would blame her, she can maybe make real money doing that. Sun traded her to LA where ESPN studio LA is literally across the street from the arena. I get fans maybe thinking this trade was "forced" but otherwise she wasn't going to play anyway and you won't have gotten a 1st round draft choice in return. Not impressed with those fans.

C-RTC Summer Recap and My Challenge Moving Forward by Coach Dresser

Wow! What an August...

David Carr wins a Junior World Championship. David became the first ISU wrestler in school history to win a Junior World Gold Medal. He defeated four very tough opponents along the way. To say he had a tough draw is an understatement. Russian in the first round, enough said. We are very proud of David. Coach St. John and David's father Nate were with him in Estonia to coach and to witness his gold medal performance. Folks, the Cyclone Regional Training Center makes a difference.

Two GREAT fundraisers in August. First off, the folks of Humboldt raised nearly $50,000 for the C-RTC on Friday night, August 16th. John Conlon and his crew have the blueprint to throw a Cyclone wrestling party! They also put together a fire truck parade through town, welcoming our athletes and coaches to Humboldt.

And just ten days later, the Glen Oaks Golf Outing in West Des Moines was a huge success. The rain stayed away, and on August 26th we had 32 foursomes and a very generous sponsorship from Chad Stone, Jeff Staton, and all the folks at Renewable Energy Group (REG). A special shout-out to David Ling, Dan Dresser, Kurt Smith, and Terry Cook for their hard work in organizing this great event with some high-energy individuals in attendance. Their final numbers exceeded $55,000 for the event.

Jesse Delgado, 4-time All American and 2-time NCAA champion from the University of Illinois, joined the C-RTC last month. Jesse already is in the room training alongside our athletes. This week the C-RTC also will add Joey Palmer, a three-time NCAA qualifier at Oregon State University, as a resident athlete.I know the lower weights will enjoy working with Jesse Delgado and Joey Palmer!

The C-RTC Tree GREW a lot in the month of August. We are sitting at $500,000 total dollars raised for 2019 -- on the way to our goal of $750,000 for the year. Please go check out the growth of our tree HERE. If you haven't jumped on our tree, please do so NOW!

When I introduced the C-RTC TREE with a short video this past June, we had just 36 donors. We currently are approaching 400 donors. We appreciate all 378 of you on the tree right now, along with all of you who attended the many outings we held this spring and summer. We had some great auction items donated and sold, plus tons of meal tickets were purchased. The list of attendees at New Hampton, Clear Lake, Okoboji, Humboldt, and Glen Oaks was in the hundreds!

My moving forward challenge to ALL! The current number of donors represents some serious growth and some serious summer momentum. Now I have a personal goal of getting 500 total donors on that TREE by the first day of our college season, which is October 10th. That day is symbolic because we also will hold our final C-RTC fundraiser of 2019 on that day -- so please help me get to 500 by then!

Our C-RTC 100 event will take place on Thursday, October 10th at the FFA Enrichment Center in Ankeny. This has become our traditional end-of-the-C-RTC season event. Attached here TableListC-RTC100-2019.docx is a list of companies and individuals that already have qualified for a table at this year's event because of their 2019 donations. Many have confirmed and are attending. We are expecting over 500 people this year!

Once again, Gov. Kim Reynolds will be our special guest speaker -- along with ISU Head Basketball Coach Steve Prohm. If you see your name or the name of your business on this list, please reach out to Robin at [email protected] and let us know if you'll be coming.

Once we know how many donors are attending, others can purchase a table for $1,000. Let Robin know if you'd like to purchase a whole table or 2 tickets to the event and we will place you at a table with others.

This event is open to ALL and the room will truly be star-studded with some of central Iowa's biggest fans and most successful individuals. In addition, many of our finest athletes and coaches will be sprinkled throughout the room on this night. I hope you can make it!!

In closing, it has been a great summer of expansion and support for the C-RTC. Thank you!

Coach Dresser
